Well I could be wrong here but aren’t these troops specifically trained to fight insurgencies? Will they still be able to kick ass against a conventional military like like in Dessert Storm?

Absolutely! “The war on terror” was a scam, as if it was really the goal of Bush&co, they’d have dealt with the Saudis who were (and still are) behind much of A-Qaeda. Heck, 85% of the hijackers on 9/11 were Saudis.
Hear, hear. My analysis was a geopolitical one and wasn’t religiously motivated.
Most people would categorize me as Sunni, but I refuse such sectarian bullshit. I’m a Muslim. Not a Sunni and not a Shiite.
That’s a fallacy, my friend. I have Lebanese people in my family that hate Hezbollah, but they acknowledge that it was a grassroots movement to resist the Israeli occupation. Moreover, squirmishes never stopped on the border. The IDF jets constantly violated the Lebanese airspace and terrorized the population by flying low.
Israeli troops on the ground regularly penetrated into Lebanon, and Hezbollah was the only one doing something about it. US media never relays the stories of Israelis abducting Lebanese and terrorizing civilians. They jump, however, on every single rifle shot from Hezbollah. Bottomline, Israel never effectively withdrew from Lebanon.
The Gaza issue is quite similar, but much more complicated due to the decades of hatred between both sides. I mean, Palestinians are taught in the craddle that Zionists took their land, and Israelis are told that Palestinians a
evil monsters out to get them. You can’t expect any peace as long as Israel doesn’t abide by 242 and the refugees issue settled.
It would help a lot for Israel to stop building settlements as a token of good faith. Gaza is easily the most dense area in the world and violence will automatically spur out of such circumstances. I mean, they’re living in an open air prison with no perspective whatsoever. Do you expect them to shut up while the West doesn’t recognize their elected government and unlawfully stops the flow of vital money in the territories?
I cannot possibly explain the whole situation in a few paragraghes, but here’s a tip; Try to rely on independent news agencies or media owned by neutral foundations for information. It minimizes the risk of being manipulated.

Cynic.
I guess you constantly need a fresh supply of enemies to keep your troops in shape. Who cares about whether they’re real or not and the cost in human lives?

Yes you are wrong. Which is why we are in such a bind now. It takes a while for the big lumbering beast that is the Army to come around. You are correct in that combating insurgencies is beginning to become the focus of training. However, Infantry wise-the same basic principles are being taught. And it is always going to be hard to teach a tank to do anything but crush and destroy–although if you could teach it how to combat insurgents other than as a soldier sardine can that would be pretty awesome.

You caught me…I’m a warmonger. If that is the way in which you wish to read my post, then so be it. From your previous posts i have a better chance of not getting wet pissing into the wind than changing your mind.
I am simply pointing out a reality. Continue to live in your delusional fantasy world where the pen is actually mightier than the sword. I hope one day the sky does rain chocolate and we can all bask in glow of strawberry colored skies as we skip through the fields holding hands. But I will not hold my breath for that to happen.

Wouldn’t that be nice! The holding hands parts sound a bit gay though.
Don’t be offended. I was just pointing out how insightful your statement was. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to get back to my “rain chocolate” dance; It’s like a classical rain dance, but with less chances of success.
