I live in Rochester and I just head abou this story today on here. Yeah, does kinda put a knot in your throat and some water in your eyes eh.
This has been all over the news around here – including ESPN. It’s a great story – this kid has moxie.
My 7 year old has high functioning autism very similar to that kid. Needless to say I was crying on the floor like a little girl after watching that.
They are a challenge to raise. You constantly question how you are raising them and if you are doing the right thing. My theory has always been the challenge him. They love routines and freak out if not allowed to follow one. So I change his routine and make him try new things as much as I can. It really jacks with him and kills me doing it, but I really think it has taught him to cope a lot better. Or maybe I’m totally wrong and screwing everything up. Either way, no one can say we’ve ever taken the easy way.
