how often should a novice do the 3 main lifts?
Add in standing overhead press, you wont regret it.
Do each once a week primarily but also do each lift again on another day to perform lighter speed work.
on bench day, do 5 sets of 10 overhead presses after (opposite for OHP day)
on squat day, do 5 sets of 10 deadlifts after (opposite on deadlift day)
Works great!

As often as a tried and true program referenced or recommended on this site that coincides with your goals says to.
Some examples for beginners include Starting Strength and Stronglifts. Likely others. Choose one and follow it. They work.

Pretty much this.
If you’re a novice, most of those programs will have you doing the main lifts (or a slight variation of them) 2-3 times a week.

Anywhere from 0 to 5 times a week, depending on who you ask. Most people seem to agree somewhere around the middle, but it depends on a lot of variables.
This is seriously like asking “How many eggs should I eat each day?”
As often as YOU need to.
For example, if you re deadlifting once a week and after every session you re thinking “fuck i would lifted more if i had remembered to push my hips through/ load my hamstrings/ set my grip”, you might want to have another day or 2 where you focuss on technique and mental cues.
I’ll repeat as often as you need to.
Personally, I didn’t see progress until I did all four lifts 3x a week. I think it really depends on your past history. If you were an active person who used their muscles frequently in their youth, then the appropriate muscles will be easier to develop and strengthen. If you weren’t active, then you need to put in a lot of activity now to see good results.
Or maybe lots of sets just give me time to get my form right and so I see progress because of that. I dunno.
great stuff thanks you
