The Incorporation Doctrine started applying it to states. This could possibly be a 14th Amendment issue(if you believe the 14th Amendment was originally intended to do anything other than guarantee freed slaves/blacks equal rights in their states). Personally, I think this is a whiner issue, and not on both sides. No reasonable person believes a few teen girls posing with a campaign sign is a government endorsement of a campaign.
Are you kidding?
In the chronology I pointed out; it blew up when:
-
People began screaming “First AMENDMENT! FREE SPEECH”; and criticizing the School Board and the NC High School Athletic Association for a policy that was hopefully known by some “adults”, and
-
The Twitter-in-Chief decided to chime in.
No.
- Poorly educated.
- Politician.
All in response to the original whine.
Poorly educated and dude who is absolutely obsessed with commenting on any possible thing that may involve him.
I remember hearing a bunch of people complaining about my microeconomics professor one day when he wasn’t there. I was surprised at how strongly they seemed to hate him, but then I started noticing stuff after.
I think microeconomics tends towards conservative
It was an interesting day when he brought in the projector slides of pictures of cities looking destroyed and had the class yell out whether they thought it was caused by nuclear bombs or price ceilings on rents. He had so many…
He also dedicated some time to hating on FDR
He sounds like an Austrian guy … maybe Chicago school … either way I like the cut it his jib.
If you’re interested there’s a book called Micromotives and Macrobehavior that does a good job bridging the gap between the two
I think it’s probably fair. They were in uniform, so it goes back to the school. I personally voted for Trump, but still - when you’re wearing an organization’s uniform, you have to realize that what you say and do is going to reflect on that organization.
Again…I don’t blame the girls at all.
Just like with the Covington incident; I blame all of the “adults” directly and/or indirectly involved.
It’s amazing to me they cancelled the game this week (saw a brief headline, didn’t dig into it … mainly because this is such a non-issue it’s embarrassing it made national news)
I checked it put. @polo77j:
It was because some “adults” had organized a rally in support of the cheerleaders (who by the way, were not suspended; continued to cheer; but were put on notice to not do it again).
One of the “adult” organizers:
"Please come out and help me show the school and the NCHSAA that freedom of speech is not dead. Please bring all your Trump and MAGA gear and let’s throw our support behind the North Stanley High School cheerleaders.”
(sigh)…I give up…
I can understand why a school might have such a policy in the first place, but I still think it’s silly.
Who would look at a photo like that and conclude that the school is officially endorsing a candidate? Again I think back to when my kid was on the hockey team. Only a total moron or an asshole would see some kids in a Trump hat and try to make a big deal out of it, as if the school was somehow endorsing one candidate over the other.
Regardless, it sure seems like enforcing this silly rule has resulted in a lot more problems than it ever could have prevented.
Not everyone had a strong grasp on 1A man…
From the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (since it appears a lot of people are not getting the point, and probably never will, @polo77j):
“NCHSAA probation, in and of itself, is not a punishment. It serves as a notice of behavior or action that is against NCHSAA Handbook Policy or contrary to expectations of sportsmanship and proper behavior. Should probationary infractions persist at a member school or within a team at a member school, additional sanctions such as fines or suspensions could be implemented.”
Morons. Liberals (b/c it’s a Trump sign), conservatives (had it been a Biden/Warren/Sanders sign)
Trooph
didn’t have to be - at worst this should’ve been relegated to the local paper instead it was seemingly thrust into the national spotlight due to Trump tweeting. This isn’t a national issue nor an attack on freedom of speech, it was/is simply a school enforcing a well-established policy evenly.
This needs to be highlighted.
The policy is silly? Many private corporations have similar policies. It probably exists because someone did something stupid enough to warrant it.
Yeah, kids need to learn that rules are meant to be broken. If that leads to them not listening to their parents with their silly rules then it would be worth it.
Considering the hyerpartisanship times we are in; it’s seems as though these rules are needed more than ever.
Trump may have done his part to shine a light on the situation, but it is the people who think children are fair game in their #resistance who put these kids at risk of harassment and worse. People who don’t see smiling kids, but obstacles to progress who deserve whatever is coming to them.
Just like Covington.
I think it is, yes. How is it helpful? What is the worst thing that could happen if some athletes pose with a Trump sign or an Obama sign?
I’m not sure what your point is. These are teenagers presumably doing normal teenage stuff, which often involves breaking various rules. The kids involved here are certainly learning lessons…
Regrettably; some of them most certainly are learning to become assholes as big as the “adults” in all of this.
Do you really believe it was limited to a countdown?
