Can we talk about how dumb the Falcons are for going for it in OT?
I was there, every body in the dome wanted to go for it. I question running Turner into a stacked box vs. the QB sneak. It was literally an inch. The QB sneak would have worked… No sense in crying about it though.
If it worked everybody would be talking about what a genius Smith was. It was Smith’s call but Malarkey’s play. I blame the play call, not the decision.
It was a stupid decision. Period. I’m not even close to being a Falcons or Saints fan but that decision left me sputtering in abject disbelief. And the results speak for themselves.
That wouldn’t have been a sane decision even if it had occurred in the first quarter much less in OT.
If it would have worked I STILL would not have called Smith a genius, just a lucky gambler playing with fire.
I agree with Push… Risk v Reward. If they get the first, they still don’t win the game. If they Don’t get the first, they pretty much will lose 99 times out of 100. They gave them the ball in FG range…

I only disagree with the play call not the decision. I can see with pretty good confidence that among coaches the choice of going for it in a 4th and 1 inch situation is usually a no brainier, but I would say at least 50% would have gone for it. It’s a QB sneak call though in all most all occasions. I can guarantee that if we punted and Bree’s drove it down the field 30 yards and then kicked the FG, that he would have been criticized for not going got it on 4th and 1 inch.
We could keep Bree’s out of the endzone, but we could not keep him out of FG range all game. People want to harp on this one decision, but we had our chances earlier. Roddy’s turn over, Bryant’s missed FG, Douglas’s missed catch all could have won us that game earlier. The reality is that we don’t have a good pass defense and Bree’s was passing with impunity. He had zero turnovers and zero sacks from our defense. We could stack them up in the red zone but between the 20’s he had his way with us all game. The idea was to keep it out of Bree’s hands. But a QB sneak is the way to do it when you need an inch.
Even if we needed 2 inches I would agree with you, but should be able to get an inch. Running a iso play gave them time to stack the box and move it forward, before the runner can get there.
Man Im still pissed about yesterday…talking heads kept on saying the Pats are not as good as last year and ripe for the picking but what they failed to mention is the JETS aren’t as good as last year. Sanchez dissapointed me yesterday once again happy feet, while not all his fault it is true if Sanchez’ first option is covered he panics…although he was getting rocked every other play, the Jets went to a 5 wide set all the time even though we made a retread look like fucking LT.
Hey Beans, while your Pats won…there aint nothing classy about the Pats and Bellidick as per Deadspin:
As the Patriots coach walked off the MetLife Stadium field, he threw his arm around his son, Stephen, and added an exclamation mark to the Patriots’ 37-16 victory over the Jets.
“Thirty-seven points on the best defense in the league, s?- my d?-,” the Patriots coach said in celebration.
[…]
Belichick was asked about the comment this morning on WFAN.
“Any conversations I had privately I’ll keep private,” he said.
shorter version that shouldn’t be a white box
Haha, that was funny. Best thing a coach or player can do in that situation is just ignore the fans.

Eh… At least he does his talking after the game.
Nice to know dude is human, lol.
Have you noticed that Rex Ryan has been alot more complimentary towards the Pats this year…before it was “I aint gonna kiss his rings” and now its “their D is awesome!”

Yikes. The Texans will probably still make the playoffs, but they won’t win a single game with Leinart at QB. Poor Andre Johnson.
