NFL 2011 Part II

da bearz

for those who haven’t read this, Andy Behrens of Yahoo! Sports pretty much nails it on DAL-NE:

You can’t really blame Tony Romo(notes) for this week’s fourth quarter meltdown by Dallas, but his team nonetheless dropped a game it might have won. This time, Jason Garrett limited his QB’s access to the self-destruct button, instead choosing to press it himself.

The Cowboys had the ball at New England’s 10 yard line late in the fourth quarter, on the road, the score tied at 13 … and then they decelerated. Dallas didn’t throw the ball into the end zone on first-down, or second-down, or third. That failed shovel pass to Tashard Choice(notes) may have been my least favorite play-call of the day, if not the season. Dez Bryant(notes) was visibly (and understandably) upset when he came off the field.

Dan Bailey(notes) kicked a short field goal, giving his team a 16-13 lead - but Dallas also gave Tom Brady(notes) the ball with five minutes of clock time. That scenario ended just the way you’d expect it to end. Rob Ryan’s defense held initially, but on the Cowboys’ ensuing possession they ran twice, committed a penalty, ran again, then punted. And then Brady was Brady. He directed a two-minute drive that ended not with three points, but with seven.

Romo got the ball back with 22 ticks remaining, completed a pair of throws, then sailed a Hail Mary attempt out-of-bounds. Clock at 0:00. Ballgame. The game-ending incompletion may have been Dez’s only second-half target, which is unforgivable.

When a coach manages the final minutes as Garrett did, it’s almost as if they’re playing for a blameless loss rather than a win. Following the game, Garrett talked about winning time-of-possession, building on positives, the importance of late field goals, and a few other things that must have felt like gut punches to Cowboys fans. He didn’t give Romo an official vote-of-no-confidence, but the end-game script did it for him.

Jeez, that’s a lot of words, haha. The Cowboys are a decent time but not capable at this point of really excelling or setting themselves apart from the rest of the competition.

The skirmish yesterday between the coaches was a stupid move by both. Harbaugh needs to act like he’s won a game before and Schwartz needs to keep his head on a swivel. I’ve still got to think it was MORE Schwartz’ fault than Harbaugh’s. Watch him do the same thing to almost any other coach in the NFL and they would probably just keep walking and accept that Harbaugh is kind of a dickhead.

And lastly, wtf at the Saints coaching staff? Sean Payton breaks his fibula and tears his MCL and their defensive backs coach also tore his ACL or something?!?!?!

Typical…

Pats Defense, somehow, after three turnovers, THREE, holds the Cowboys to 16 fucking points for 55 mins, and the media talks about how the Cowboys lost the game…

God forbid the Pats are actually a good team and won it, nope, the Cowboys lost it…

Mornin’ to you too lol.

Seriously though, if NE can establish a strong running game going into the cold season they will be even tougher to beat. Thirty regular season wins in a row or something like that for Tom Brady? that’s disgusting.

Barring injury it looks like GB then NE and everybody else.

Really Beans all I have been hearing is How Yet Again Brady wins it at the end. Nothing really about the Cowboys failing, more how the Pats D finally stood up.

Our home town medias are retarded then, lol. I think what you are describing is the story.

It is a tough loss for the Cowboys, but it isn’t like it was a chump team stuffed them. And shit they held a great Offense to 20 points. There are a lot of moral victories from yesterday, for both teams.

It was a hard fought battle, and both D’s stepped up and smashed some heads. Kinda pissed I missed 5/6th of the game.

Yea it was a slug fest, was a good game, I hate losing but its not like the Lions loss.

#1 Romo was reigned in especially after that pick in the first quarter. Hell it could have been worse.
#2 Now I have a little more faith in our Defense and I think by the season ends we will be in the top 10 of the league.
#3 WE NEED A RB, I think this game really showed that when it comes to a 4 min offense we do not have that back that will get the tough yards.

Do you think they miss Barber? He had his chances to take that starting back spot, got injured a lot it seemed.

Barber is done, over 30 and lost a step. Felix is to fragile, Choice cant hold onto the ball, Murray is young and may end up okay.

Payton may even end up on injured reserve?

;-)
By the way he got rolled up and his reaction, I knew it was bad. Dang man. I can’t believe he coached from the bench the whole first half.

49ers VS. Lions as the game of the week?!?!

Besides Jesus?

Hey it is what it is, however Sorry WC I have to say Lions are for real, 49rs are still doing it with smoke and mirrors to an extent. Still missing that WR threat and pass rusher.
Even though I’m drinking Lions Kool-aide like a parched border crosser dipping his lips into the opportunity, hope, and fertilizer of the Rio Grandes’ northern banks, I still have to say:

Never bet against a Harbaugh.
Quoted for accuracy… Unfortunately.

I agree with no off season he has done a miracle.

My point is that the Lions have built from the inside out, for long term success and for big games they have the most versatile attack. Yes they are weak on the back end of the Defense but they are good enough, cause their front 7 are very fucking solid and their front 4 are top 3 in the league.

Offense has the triple attack, with Stafford, Best and Megatron.

49rs have a very solid D and play mistake free football, which will get you a winning record. But if Gore goes down or is shut down, who are they going to? Crabtree? V. Davis is a great TE, but you shut down Gore and run Cover 2 their Offense will be shut down.
X’s and O’s - I agree with you 100%, 49’ers have depth issues for sure. And their QB doesn’t have a very good history.

But Detroit is coming off of a huge Monday Night game and Michigan is where Harbaugh played his college ball. His team will be ready to play, fresh, and mean. It’s going to be a great game, closer than a lot of folks think, in my opinion.
Again… Quoted for accuracy.

I figured WC would bust my balls not you.

So how come the 49rs could not beat the Cowboys?

Sorry for ball busting.

I basically quoted those to inflate my ego.

Sorry about your 'Boys. That was ugly.

Garret is going to get a ton of crap about late game management, and deservedly so. He’ll learn from it though, he’s sharp.

I did say at the beginning of this year we were not going to make playoffs, this is a “rebuilding” year. 4 out of 5 new starting lineman, roster cuts and new HC.

Still sucks but it is what it is.

I understand what you mean.

The Lions are now exposed. The secondary isn’t top tier against solid recievers. Special teams is plain awful, and the D-line looked porous at times agains a top back like Gore.

But that Offensive Line. Yikes. Scary bad yesterday. It showed all over Staffords face in the 4th quarter, even moreso in his body language.

Considering just how bad that NE DEF had looked going into the game – ie. 32nd against the pass – it really was a great (and surprisingly so) defensive performance by NE

I agree with everything you just said, lol. That is why went the media writes that Dallas lost, it is annoying. It takes away from Dallas and NE.

But fuck it, I hope teams overlook the D, maybe they can catch people sleeping on them. (HAHA yeah right, they still suck, lol.)
