The fact that this thing was only JUST discovered, and lives in Middle Eastern sand dunes, I’d guess that means you’re safe from it sitting in your living room in Florida.

This is going to sound like BS, but I actually saw a spider looking exactly like this during my basic training here in Croatia. It was fucking huge, too. I distinctly remember the desert camo looking colors.
One of the guys I was with at the time threw a big rock at it, hurting it’s leg, and the damned thing limped away. I never thought spiders could LIMP (we don’t have big spiders around these parts).
Now I wonder if I should report this to local biologists or something. This was back in 2004.

"Most of Cerbalus aravensis’s habits remain a mystery, but the researchers say it is nocturnal and most active during the blazing summer heat. The spider lives in an underground den, hidden by a door that swings upwards to welcome unsuspecting prey like lizards and insects. To make the camouflage door, the spider patches together bits of sand.
The researchers believe the spider uses a ‘sit-and-wait’ hunting strategy, biding its time till prey approach, Shanas said."
