New & Looking for Diet Help

I’m 150 lbs. age 20, just got myself a gym membership with 24 hour fitness (active. Don’t know if that’s good enough, but that’s all I have.) I want a little advice on where I should start off, and what kind of diet I should think about.

I’ve eaten a lot of mcdonalds and junk in the past say… 15 years?!? Need to get rid of some extra weight and love handles lol… any efficient workouts that can be done? i’ve looked around but don’t know what type is in my range, not only that but i really dont know much about the exercises apart from bench presses, crunches, push ups and the other usual ones.

i also have a pair small (about 100 pounds?!) dumbbells that were my dads a loong time ago, i can use those when i cant get to the gym… right? small, but its something?

Yeah, stay away from McDonald’s. You’re 150 @ 5’9" so you’re not that bad. Start cooking your own food (chicken, beef, tuna, veggies, protein drinks). Then pick one of the pre-made routines from the articles here. Which one? It doesn’t matter. Just pick one you can do with the equipment available at your gym, and work. Hard.

The best thing you can do right now is to get to the gym and work out. It doesn’t matter what you do right now, you just need to get the body ready to move heavy stuff. It will do wonders for you while you complete lesson one, and you won’t waste any days on that membership.

Don’t worry about your knowledge level or feeling foolish, we have all been there before. Be humble and ask a few questions. But not in the middle of someone’s set.

Don’t worry about losing weight. At a buck fifty, you need to gain weight for a couple years, then MAYBE cut down. Anyway, on to lesson one…

Have you tried the search button on this site? It will open an amazing array of information on the wide world of lifting heavy stuff. It also has lots and lots of articles on nutrition and methods of eating. Read the first three articles at the top of the beginners forum. They have lots of info that can cut down on the mistakes that everyone makes at first.

After reading a bit and deciding on a method of attack, get off your love handles get to work.

Good Luck.
