The price is a lot higher, but nowhere near 2x. Even without the bulk discount, it’s “only” 23$ more expensive, original price being 37. So, a bit over 1.5x the original price.

I only pay $24.99 for two pounds of Met-Rx Protein Plus at Trader Joe’s. Of course there are still reasons to chug plan whey protein, but at this price there?s no advantage over shopping local.
huh? it’s only $21 for 2 lbs if you buy in bulk here. Not saying it’s cheap, just seems cheaper than what you’re buying now.
Not if you add in the FREE shipping… umm wait. I dunno. NVM.

Actually, that’s not a bad price. The protein plus is more equivalent to Metabolic Drive, with soy, not whey.
I will miss getting the 5 lb. tub for 37 bucks, but even at $24 for a 2 lb. tub, that’s a better deal than the whey they sell around where I live.
Normally 2 lb. tubs are about $35 at the local gyms and GNCs.
It will be available in the new 2-pound size soon.
Will it still be available in the 5lb tub?
You can NEVER stop making the nat flavor Grow! Whey!!! It’s my bread and butter, so to speak.
Seriously, it’s the only whey I can really consume in large quantities. In fact, I’m ordering more right now!!!
Incidentally, I have a very picky 7-ish year old child who won’t eat good ‘protein’ foods (ie meat/fish). She loves the Vanilla Metabolic Drive, though-- and Biotest is the only brand she’ll drink.
Any plans for ‘ready to drink’ whey containers??
The 5 lb. bottles will no longer be available.
I’m sure Biotest will make an RTD as soon as the technology is available to produce a product without sacrificing quality.

While I can’t blame Biotest for increasing prices at a time like this, I’d still feel better if there were some explanation. As I recall the last time prices were raised we were told it was because the cost of gas, why did it go up this time? Seems we’re paying more for less. I believe somewhere in the ball park of .10 cents more per serving.
Biotest has always been known to me as a company that doesn’t take their consumer base for granted, and ream them with high prices. I hope it stays this way, and that this new price increase isn’t a changing of the old guard.
Agreed. With a 30% price increase - considering the bulk discount - is it really fair to say GROW! Whey is still economical? Granted, I’m probably going to give it a shot, just because I’ve come to expect the best from Biotest. However, with Metabolic Drive being the “niche” protein, one would expect Grow! - the generic product - to remain competitive in price and quality; just like the original article tells us. Two new flavors - unless they are completely awesome and rad - aren’t the strongest selling point, considering the competition.
So, I hope there is more info on the way, other than flavoring and smaller tubs, neither of which favor the “economical” angle of GROW!.

As mentioned in another thread, we were long overdue to increase the price of Grow! Whey 5 lb. bottles to $49.00 to keep up with the increases in protein cost. This would have still been priced competitively with lesser quality products.
I wouldn’t claim that Grow! Premium Whey is “generic” either since there are significant differences in whey proteins. I believe we’ll have an article explaining the difference soon. In the meantime, I can tell you that Grow! Premium Whey contains the highest quality American-made WPC.
Cheaper whey is available in terms of price and quality, and I’m sure that Tim could knock the price down by using lower-grade materials. I for one am happy that he didn’t.

How does the Grow! taste in comparison to Metabolic Drive? I love Metabolic Drive Vanilla.
I have used both vanilla and chocolate Metabolic Drive as well as both the new vanilla and chocolate Grow! Whey. IMO the flavors are identical. The only thing I can say is that Metabolic Drive has a certain richness that the new Grow! Whey does not quite deliver however the flavors match. I have been using the “old” 5 5lb tub of Grow! Whey for a while now and can honestly say that I am very pleased with the new product.
That would explain why it was cheaper for me to order from the states then it was from the Australian Biotest website I am guessing they already raised their prices.
I’ll keep getting Surge from Biotest but ill look else where for the protein, times are getting tough for every one.

Independent distributors need to mark up products appropriately to cover shipping, duties, taxes, business expenses, and a profit.
This is why they have to sell Biotest supplements for higher prices than offered through this site.

Actually, I’m pretty sure the original price - before the price increase, of which there was at least one - was $29.99 for 5 lbs
Which means $60 for 5 lbs of the new Grow! Whey vs $30 for the old Grow! Whey. I know it was $36.99 just before the 5 lb jug was removed from the store, but I’m pretty sure a year ago (or longer) it was $29.99
That’s how I got 2x the price. I get my protein elsewhere, anyway, and come to Biotest for some niche stuff but that’s it.
Any plans for a strawberry Grow! Whey that will taste somewhere in the ball park of the Low-Carb Metabolic Drive strawberry? That would make my day! My PWO shake would practically be a dessert…

Thanks for telling us about the upcoming article, Brian. I think that a lot of us are anxious to see it. I am especially interested as to what the “significant differences” you mention are. So, still waiting to hear the first reviews on the Grow! flavors…
I just got my tub of chocolate. the flavor is great. It tastes very familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it. I think it might be like some type of chocolately cereal. Kind of a hint of strawberry.

We’ll just have the 3 flavors of Grow! Premium Whey for now, but a strawberry flavor is very possible if Tim sees enough demand for it.
Why is Biotest doing away with the 5lb tub? When you guys first came out with it you talked about responding to the needs of your consumers…how you understood that we like to purchase our protein in bulk, etc.
Now you have decided to do away with it altogether. If you needed to raise the price to $49 like you mentioned earlier then why not do that instead of making us pay $60 for 5 lbs?
So, who’s tried the new GROW!s? One of the mods mentioned that the sales were great so far, but I’ve mostly seen users on T-Nation say the cost is now prohibitive for them.
