Conan’s Jason Momoa Is Really Impressive
Conan expert Patrice Louinet had the good fortune to see some set pictures from Conan and was impressed.

Patrice Louinet who has studied, worked on and edited the works of Conan creator Robert E. Howard for decades, was able to take a look at some Conan set pictures belonging to Fredrik Malmberg Conan’s producer.

Here is what he had to say (In translated text)…

“Got to see Fredrik Malmberg, who showed me a few pics - pre CGI - of Jason Momoa as Conan. Despite this, these pics were enough to convince me a bit more that Momoa is an excellent Conan, as far as his looks is concerned. He is very close to the character as described by Howard: he is hairy, dark, scarred and muscular yet lithe, devoid of the body-builder physique syndrome. Really impressive. More, Momoa has taken the Howard books with him, often reading a few passages for himself before shooting to get into his character.”

Official Conan images will not be released until Comic Con.

Conan is directed by Marcus Nispel and stars Jason Momoa, Ron Perlman, Stephen Lang, Rose McGowan and Rachel Nichols. It is due out in 2011.

“devoid of the body-builder physique syndrome.” Oh my…
They’re calling it a syndrome?

Oh sweet fuck!
Gotta cushion their own fragile egos from the ineptitude they feel towards themselves. “You see that 240lb lean guy over there? Yea, he’s like that because he’s sick in the head. Me? No, i love being a ball of mushy goop. Means im comfortable with myself, and healthy.”
Was thinking the same thing!

Lordotic nerds trying to explain away their own inadequacies by putting down the image that they most probably look up to, because they havent got the balls (literally) to achieve what they secretly aspire to.

I think this movie will lose a lot of steam down the road from the fan boys. I will watch it since I am a fan of Conan, however probably wait for it on DVD borrowed from a friend because I don’t want to spend a time on this franchise.

We’re considered dinosaurs I guess, no school like the old school. Fuck 'em.

Robert Rodriguez is directing this…hmmmmmm wonder what direction he is going with this.
That actually makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing.
Rodriguez isn’t directing, he’s producing it. Just like with Predators.

Conan is being directed by Marcus Nispel, who directed the recent Friday the 13th remake, as well as Pathfinder (a movie I haven’t seen, about a Viking boy raised by Native Americans who eventually fights other Vikings.)

Momoa, the dude playing Conan, is 6’5". Maybe they’ll play off his height to make him seem more imposing. I’ve read that Bob Sapp was cast as the bad guy’s right hand man, so I can’t imagine those two standing toe to toe, since Sapp outweighs the guy by 100 pounds easy.

I’ve also read that they’re talking about parts of it being shown in 3D. I’m not sure how random 3D action scenes will help the story. I’d rather see the Dagoth fight from Destroyer in 3D.

Lol arent they changing the story though? To where he’s not on the wheel or anything. Kinda like a roaming free spirit…picking flowers n such?
Ron Perlman is cast as Conan’s father and Leo Howard (Young Snake Eyes from GI Joe) is supposedly cast as Young Conan so we’ll see how he starts out, one way or the other.

The key words in that little blurb are “pre CGI.” I am taking this to mean they are going to beef him up using techno-wizardry.

They’re going to need a lot of computers.

Ron Pearlman is a bad ass, I’ve been a fan of his since Alien Resurrection. Leo Howard? God, this is just a pretty boy cock suck fest isn’t it?

Lol at syndrome…fucking retard.

Not so fast, maybe we can get government money to help us combat our “syndrome”

Um… … the dude’s 13 years old. Awkward.

But I get where you’re coming from. Err, I understand what you’re saying.

(And very much agree on Perlman. Guy can do little wrong in my book, including some of his straight-to-video stuff.)

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their women.

i was being silly about coleman

lol I used to call big musclular people conan, lol now they’re going to get mad at me.

This guy played Ronon Dex in Stargate Atlantis. I bet hollywood could pay for a good trainer to make him fill in.

They also picked him after he shot some scenes. Why don’t we wait and see what happens, after all if it sucks they’ll just do a better version in a year or two later ( ex, the hulk ).

Or lets see some actors who could actually, you know-- act.

Even when trying hard to look badass this dude still looks like a pussy…anyway how a skinny black dude can all of a sudden become a huge muscular Celt? Are they going to rewrite the Conan saga? What’s next? Brad Pitt playing the young Nelson Mandela?
Guy, Conan is described as having dark skin. Why is his race that much of an issue with that in mind? I could see if this was someone as dark as Wesley Snipes, but where is all of this concern when characters are constantly portrayed by white characters in Hollywood when the source material is anything but?

Prince of Persia
The Last Airbender

Why not let someone else get a shot at that?
I don’t care about his race or skin color… His hair doesn’t fit at all, but whatever… But damn it, he’s just too goddamn small.

They really should use Roland Kickinger or whatever his name was (Arnold “double”) if they want a live-action movie… Or better yet, since it’s 2010: CG the whole damn thing… Human actors just look silly trying to portray big barbarians with giant swords… That was fine 30 years ago when every movie was kind of silly, but now?

Actually… The only one who could do Conan justice and not end up looking silly would be… Kratos. And vice-versa

I had lunch today with my wife and I told her about the new Conan. I explained who the new Conan was. When I said he’s the guy from Stargate:Atlantis she said “Why not?” I asked her if she was serious and she said he was pretty jacked but maybe too dark… she was confused with Tulc (sp) from SG1. Then she had a pause and said, “Ohhhhh… no ew, doesn’t he have to be muscular at least like Arnold was?” Then she said why can’t they get a bodybuilder or someone from WWE like Batista? She then said “I predict a flop if he goes as he looks now minus the dreads in place of straight hair, people expect a larger than life character.” She then went on to say “What next a blonde Wonderwoman?”…

At least she understands that movies should make an attempt to keep to the source material.

I hear they are casting for Heman. Spencer Pratt is the front runner for the position.

Don’t worry, I heard Ron Perlman is gonna loan Momoa the muscle suit he wore in “Hellboy”

Best mantra of ALL Time!

Best BattleCry = “Come and get them!”

He’s Hawaiian. And The Rock is black and Samoan and most people would have applauded his choice as Conan, so your focus on his ethnicity really makes no sense. Regardless of that, Conan’s grandfather was described as being dark and from the South and Conan’s appearance in all the Robert E. Howard stories I remember reading describe him as dark with black hair and blue eyes, so at the very least, he wasn’t pale.
My bad, he’s Hawaiian.
Anyway being dark doesn’t mean you look like African, South Asian, Hawaiian, Samoan…the main issue is not only the color of the skin…I mean some Chinese, Korean have fair rosy skin, so let’s get some white skinned chinese dude playing Adolf Hitler, Churchill or King Arthur?
In the context of the Conan saga a Hawaiian, Samoan, African…would be out of place. Conan is described as dark with black hair and blue eyes from the caucasus region so we can safely guess that his overall physical features are those of a caucasian. One of my little bros is dark skinned with almost blond hair and blue eyes (after half a day in the sun he’s as dark as your average Arab can be and yes the chicks dig him…) Guess what? Despite of his unusual skin color for a white dude he definitively still look like a caucasian.

Sure the Conan saga is fictional but still based on some true historical/geographical facts.
And yes The Rock as Conan would be an awesome choice! His decent physique and tremendous charisma can compensate for the lack of accuracy…
