I have standard HC, disability insurance, and a couple life insurance policies I can draw from.

Also a 401k for myself and my wife, along with a Roth IRA

Agreed. But it’s also a valid critique that many people (like yourself) are on public assistance that will never be recouped. Poor lazy people don’t magically start putting in effort AFTER they develop a disease. Nobody thought you were going to be successful before your MS, and certainly nobody thinks you will after.
