I’ll take this a step further. I don’t think the film did the original novel justice (“Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” - Philip K. Dick). It was a good movie in and of itself, but if you knew the novel first, there’s much to be desired.
All the Michael Crighton novels to movies sucked (relative to the novel). Jurassic Park was a fun movie though. Congo? I never got through the movie.
Ditto “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. It was years before I would watch the movies because those novels (plus The Hobbit) were so ingrained in my head with my own imagery.
Having said that, they were still fun/good movies.

You know didnt know that about Blade Runner should have looked that up. I agree on Crighton also they just couldnt capture his suspense and story telling it came out cheesey.

They should never remake Back to the Future, Jaws or The Goonies. There several others, but those are the first 3 that popped in my head. Also, Calvin & Hobbes should never be touched.
Didn’t know Calvin and Hobbes was a movie.
Go back and read my thread starter. I said your list could include books or cartoons you’d think would be bad choices for film.
For cartoons: Batman the Animated Series. They should never touch this again (although they have, unfortunately) as it is brilliant. Even better than Nolan’s take on the bat, IMO.
Wait! I did see that one when it came out in 1992. But that’s the only one I’ve seen. I’ve seen lots of Clint’s movies, but surprisingly none of the westerns.
MASH
Silence of the Lambs
My Left Foot
Tombstone
Up In Smoke
The Professional(always wished Portman would do a sequel)
Airplane!
Midnight Cowboy
Cool Hand Luke
The Wild Bunch
Nightmare Before Christmas, I would like a sequal but not a remake. Maybe they could do what Uncle Walt wanted to do with his Fantasia series and re-release the film with new fottage every few years

To the poster who said Rob Zombie “perfected” Halloween…you are a mongoloid and should no longer post in threads about movies. While I enjoy the Zombie remakes, John Carpenter’s original is one of the greatest horror films of all time for the sheer fact that it already was perfect, brought an entire genre to life, and we have it to thank (or hate in some cases) for the sheer number of horror and slasher films out there today.
x2
That scene where his face appears from the shadows behind Jamie Lee Curtis is the greatest horror movie scene of all time IMHO. That scene is both scary and artful to perfection. The scene I’m referring to is at 0:55 in this video.
The Bunnyman. Please, God, no one ever remake this dreadful piece of shit I just wasted an hour and a half on because I couldn’t accept the idea that it could get any worse.
Why are they remaking spiderman so soon? I just found out about that one yesterday. Also Judge Dredd, that seems like a movie there would only ever be 1 of.
13th Warrior is perfect just how it is, yet it’s one of those films that feels “succeptible” to a remake. They can take all the key characters and replace them with modern celebrities that would draw a crowd and ultimately ruin one of the more Manly movies to come out in the last 15 years.
Other great flims not to be remade:
Fast times at Ridgemont High
Cliff Hanger (My fav. Stallone film)
Pulp Fiction
The Goonies
Back to the Future
Big Lebowski
No Country for Old Men
Armageddon (pure Michael Bay porn)
Etc…
Terrible movies not to be remade:
Powder
Armageddon??
8mm
Con Air
Snake Eyes
Michael
Phenomenon
Civil Action
The Generals Daughter
Broken Arrow
Face Off
Get Shorty
Look who’s Talking 1 & 2
(How the Fuck did Travolta get so much work in the 90’s?)
Jesus I could go on and on. Basically every movie that still sat on the shelves at blockbuster at 6:00pm on a Saturday night.
Anything with Paul Newman or Jack Nicholson playing a major part, except for some of Nicholson’s most recent films. No one can do justice to any of the parts they’ve played.
Specifically:
Hud
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
The Hustler
The Long Hot Summer
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
The Sting
(I made mention that these two would make great remakes in another thread, but I’ve since changed my mind)
Cool Hand Luke
Torn Curtain
Slap Shot
The Color of Money
The Verdict
Road to Perdition
Easy Rider
Batman
Carnal Knowledge
The Shining
One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest
Chinatown
Terms of Endearment
A Few Good Men
I would mention The Departed but it’s already a remake

Try watching A Fistful of Dollars. That was the very first of the “Spaghetti Westerns” with Eastwood.
I watched it again about a year ago and I thought it “aged” surprisingly well for a movie from the mid-60s. Biggest problem with it is some of the extreme close-ups and quick back-and-forth cuts are now cliches, especially in Westerns, but they weren’t back then.
In keeping with the intent of this thread, I would nominate most of Eastwood’s westerns and the Dirty Harry movies as ones that should not have remakes.

Cause Eastwood was the movie, he was dynamic on screen.
Outlaw Josey Wales and The Good, the bad and the ugly are my favorite westerns of all time.
Drives my wife nuts cause when they are on I just have to watch them. Some reason I have yet to buy them.
