And?
Do you feel that it is your Constitutional right to purchase or build a nuclear weapon?

Do you think that the Authors of the Constitution would feel that it is your right to purchase or build nuclear weapons?
They couldn’t have even begun to fathom nuclear weapons. Trying to invent how any of us would imagine the founders and thoughts on nuclear weapons is a waste of time.

Not taking the side of either argument here, but trying to pretend we have an idea of what the founders might have thought based on anything other than someone inventing what they think their position would be is ludicrous.

Although I have seen these debates many times and when people say “you know Jefferson would have thought X about nuclear weapons” I get to chuckle.

I believe it is my Constitutional Right to build or purchase a weapon that I could use to protect family, property, and myself or brother from another mother. Rifles, handguns, machine guns. Without the risk of taking out an entire city or starting a nuclear apocalypse. I believe our Nation has enough weapons technology to protect the United States of America without the need for me to have Weapons of Mass Destruction.

"You have never ever seen a post anywhere on PWI that said, “you know Jefferson would have thought X about nuclear weapons.”

Not even one lil bitty time.

You chuckle, yes, but you chuckle at illusions. Self fabricated ones at that."

I know it’s hard to believe when you have almost 38,000 posts at one place, but not everyone only discusses things at PWI. Yes, some of us have branched out and discussed things on other places. You might try it sometime.

The only thing I’m chuckling at is another mistake of yours in your hurry to insult someone. You just can’t really turn it off so you’ve stopped thinking before posting.

Clearly you missed the SAMA forum, where Push blessed us with such truly legendary offerings. Unfortunately it had a miserable death because some people didn’t know how to act.

If I am able to land half the tail, in both quantity and quality, by the time I am Push’s age, then I have lived a good life.

I’m gonna go ahead and declare this post “Most Absurd of the Year.” You beat out the Brock Lesnar/50 Cent guy.

I’m not interested in semantics. Why should non-state actors be able to own and deploy nuclear weapons? Usama bin Laden certainly had the wherewithal to procure multiple nuclear weapons. Would allowing him to have done so been a good idea?

Also, what is the universal moral precept that designates nuclear weapons as a “right”?
Non-state actors should be able to own and deploy nuclear weapons to balance the power of states. bin Laden had the same right to weapons that anybody else had and has.

There’s obviously nothing universal about a right to own any weapon(actually, a universal moral precept probably-almost certainly, in fact-does not exist at all—the golden rule likely comes closest, but no state respects it).

However, the 2A can be (and has been) argued not to apply to things like warships in that such cannot be borne.

From there it can be argued that the government’s authority to issue a letter of marque does not constitute the enumeration of a specific right to own a warship.

Which is to say, it’s complicated, and then it gets further complicated because we must use analogy to make it relevant to us today.
Someone once said, “But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain - that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it…”

Your post did an excellent job of pointing out why it is foolish to try and argue against ANYTHING the U.S. government does by bringing up the Constitution. The court can interpret it anyway it wants.

Um…that a mad bomber has a right to nuclear weapons?

Every person who has ever murdered another with a weapon had a right to possess that weapon before he aggressed against another.
