Larry, that was awesome. One of the funniest Conan moments to me was during the first few years of his show, Tony Danza was a guest. Danza starts explaining that he had a tattoo removed, and of course Conan asks what it was. Danza explains that it was a semi-truck busting out of his skin on his shoulder with the words “keep on truckin’” underneath. As he’s explaining further Andy stops him and asks with as straight a face as possible “Does that mean you’ve stopped trucking?” The crowd went apeshit, I almost pissed myself I was laughing so hard and Danza didn’t look amused in the slightest. Haven’t been able to find the clip, but if I do ya’ll will be the first to know.

ROFL I can just picture that.
And please do link if you find a vid of that. I was only born in 1990, so most of the older stuff I have to find online anyway [couldn’t have seen it when it aired].

I’m a huge Conan fan, but I didn’t watch his show as much as I should’ve. I did catch most of the first episode and all [including dvr’ing it] of the last one. I was expecting Will Ferrel to play on his 1st night appearance when he told Conan “he wouldn’t last long.” Anyway, from being the funniest talk show host of all time and one of the brightest minds on television, he proved himself to be a class act on the level of few others. When he gave that last speech and derided cynicism and thanked NBC for everything despite them basically fucking him over I was truly moved and impressed. Wherever he ends up I’ll definitely be watching more.
Holy shit, we agree on something!
Family Guy sucks.
You disgust me on principle alone.
Wow I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time (in regards to the Norm vids). good find man. holy shit.

Haha
Glad you liked it, man.
May as well post the other Norm interview on Conan. Not as funny as the first, but still REALLY funny. Again, a good deal of the laughs are from Conan trying not to laugh at inappropriate times [like when Norm makes a politically incorrect joke/remark]. Conan just knows exactly how to react for maximum awkward laughs. Which is another thing Leno doesn’t have. Carson, Letterman and Coco all base a good part of the funny aspect of their interviews on their reactions to what the guests say. Hence why you see a lot more close up shots of them during the interviews. Leno really does just ask questions.
Anyway:

You know I’m your hero.
I feel like there is a whole lot of cynicism in this thread ![]()
As I said earlier, there are no rules in show business… this situation really does suck but its not like Conan isn’t going to do well elsewhere.
A few points:
Conan was not very funny on the Tonight Show in my opinion. I think he probably would have figured it out but I really think the bigger venue was too much for him. He never seemed to relax and establish that intimacy that made you feel like he was your zany friend goofing around that he had before.
Oh and as I understand it, pimpbot, masturbating bear and everything else are intellectual property belonging to NBC. You’ll never see those again, certainly not with the same names.
His rating were horrible for his first few seasons of late night too but Lorne Michaels stuck with him and was rewarded when he found his rhythm. I think the same thing would have happened but NBC didnt feel like waiting around.
