Agreed. Lakers look like they may sign Shannon regardless. I also prefer Barnes to Bell so it ended up working out even better.
to be honest, LAL has put together so many mediocre, uneventful summers for so long – though one can’t reasonably complain about a championship squad that’s already in the luxury tax bracket – I still don’t even know how to respond to a such a solid offseason. heh

So I’m thinking when the last MAJOR offseason move LAL made was. I’m thinking when Shaq was traded to MIA for Odom and others. Maybe last year getting Ron Artest?

yeah I cant stand that stuff man. Especially UFC fighter guys who say they’re “warriors.” “going to war.” “In a battle out there” I hate that shit. you’re not a fucking warrior going to war. Thats kind of a slap in the face to the real warriors who are overseas bleeding and dying so that these athletes can sit back here in the US and get paid a lot of money to play a sport. Its definitely a pet peeve of mine from since I’ve actually spent quite a bit of time overseas and seen/done things these “warriors” couldn’t even comprehend… Such bullshit.
Ok end Rant ![]()
back to basketball
Bad misinformed rant. Fighters ARE going to war. People die in the ring. People become permanently disabled in the ring. There is another man attempting to do you harm. Yes sir, it is war. It is combat. Period.
bullshit… complete bullshit. You are wrong sir. they are highly paid entertainers not warriors.
here are the definitions of the words:
War:
noun
a state of armed conflict between different nations or states or different groups within a nation or state
Combat:
noun |??k???¤m??bat|
fighting between armed forces
LOL well you are entitled to your opinion. Combat does not have to armed. You are nit picking. A man risks his life stepping in the ring. I take it you have never tasted such combat, or you wouldn’t speak as you do. Entertainment? Yes, to you, the fan sitting at home or in the cheap seats, but the men you’re watching are risking health and potentially life. And that sir, is a fact, not opinion. They have 11 year olds in Africa who will pick up and fire a AK47 and kill quite well. I’m not sure I’d term them “warriors”.
People risk their lives all the time that doesn’t make them warriors. Race car drivers die more often than fighters do but they aren’t warriors.
I’ve been in real “combat” situations before, know friends who have been shot, blown up and killed in a real war… And I take it you’ve never tasted such combat?
Call it my opinion if you’d like but I think it’s a little disrespectful to the real warriors out there when a prize fighter trys to say they are a warrior.
You’re blinded by personal bias. Martial arts in general is the oldest form of combat…before bullets, bombs, etc., there was personal combat and personal weapons. Modern MMA, boxing, wrestling, is rooted back to those times…personal combat. They ARE warriors. Frequency of death is irrelevant. There is a risk of death or disability and it’s real.
So apparently what’s stopping the Hawks and the Mavericks from signing Shaq is that he wants a 2 year deal for $8 million per year. Both teams are very interested in getting him but can’t get around his price tag.
To compare, Jermaine O’Neal signed a two year deal for only 6 million per year, and both have put up similar numbers. Of course you can’t not count the intangibles that come with having a guy as big as Shaq defending your basket, but I still think he should go for a similar salary as JO.

Shaq is delusional. $8 mil/yr??? No way. This guy is desperately trying to get on any team where he thinks he may have another chance a championship just so he can catch Kobe. Ain’t gonna happen. He was so great once and has made so many bad moves since. He’s a chump.
I don’t even think he’s worth $6 mil/yr at this point. Maybe $2-3 mil/yr. Maybe.

I think teams feel Shaq is more deadweight than providing significant value. Sure he can still play, but he’s obviously at the end of his career and just trying to win another championship. Teams aren’t willing to take the risk on him.
Considering Jermaine made 22M with MIA last year and Shaq made 20M, Jermaine was man enough to swallow his pride and take a huge paycut. Shaq, even with 8M per year offer, I think needs to go down a bit more for teams to take a serious look at him.

I’m thinking when then-GM West brought a young Shaquille to Los Angeles that one summer. heh

If you look at the last 2 or 3 years, Shaq has actually made his teams worse. He’s one of the 2 or 3 best centers of all time, but it’s time to hang 'em up. He has no real value now other than the occasional sound bite. It sucks, but that’s the way it is.
Apparently Shaq stole his “Shaq vs” reality tv idea from Steve Nash-
Not that this has anything to do with anything, I just found it interesting. Guess Shaq was willing to do anything to stay in the spotlight.

I doubt he cares about Kobe, he’s going through marital problems and athletes usually play longer when this happens. And wasn’t he an all star with PHX. He just needs a team that fits him but 8million is a bit too much.

He was an All-Star that year 'cause he’s a popular guy in the host city. He even acknowledged that fact during his co-MVP speach. I was also wondering if he’s looking for so much 'cause he’s been spending beyond his means and has the marital problems. I really hope Shaq doesn’t turn into another broke former multi-millionaire.
Lorenzen Wright has been reported missing.

I’m pretty sure he didn’t start the All Star game that year.

??? Hope he’s alright. Y’all remember a few years ago when Brian Williams was lost at sea and never found? I’ll see if I can dig up an article.
EDIT: Here it is. This is even crazier than I remember-
When Keeping it Real Goes Wrong
Minnesota’s GM gets fined for saying that Beasley was an immature kid smoked too much marijuana when he was in Miami.

Seen a handful of interviews with this guy [Kahn] and he comes across as kind of a douche that doesn’t “get it”. Guess that’s why his team keeps tanking and he traded away his one major player to make room for Darko Milicic… Hopefully Beasly can get his shit together, 'cause the dude has major game.
I like Rondo’s attitude basically saying screw the Heat, we’re the defending Eastern Conference Champs. “They should be good, but they ainâ??t done nothing yet”.
I’m still picking the Celts to come out of the East again. Someone’s going to have to actually knock em off before I’m ready to write em off.
Celts-Lakers rematch.
Yeah no,too much wear ant tear. Orlando, Chicago, and Miami will all be better. LA probably in the west, I hope PHX can play well with Warrick and that Lopez develops more they looked like a very good cohesive unit against LA.
