Anyone else watching the LAL vs Mia game?
About to fire up the DVR and catch it now.

And two other perhaps discussion worthy topics I’ve heard on the radio this week:

 1. James is best player in the game, Durant is best scorer, Bryant is best closer

 2. If LAC-OKC meet in a best-of-seven, give the edge to LAC for this reason: who do you feel better about quarterbacking your team down the stretch of a tight game: CP or Westy
1. Yes, no and no. Kobe is a better scorer than Durant. But if Kobe was the best closer the Lakers wouldn’t have lost so many close games this season. Granted, he was probably the reason they were close down the stretch. I’ve had my eye on the Clippers this year, y’know with all the hype and everything and I can confidently say that I believe CP3 is the best closer in the NBA right now. Guy is money in crunch time.

 2. I don’t think the OKC Thunder are a championship team. Maybe I’ll be proven wrong this season, who knows. I don’t think the tandem of Durant and Westbrook can get it done. Conversely, I believe the Clippers can get it done. They have CP3 and more importantly, a deep bench filled with veterans.

Id like to see OKC get a ring but im of the same belief as you, theyre bench is really holding them back. Theyre still capable of doing it, but with the way the clippers are playing its hard to pick OKC over them.

Thanks for posting this. Definitely will be buying it.

If anyone in the intricacy of sports they should check out the Sportscasting: The Hidden Influences Behind How Sports Are Played and Games Are Won.

It’s dubbed the Freakonomics of sports. I know raj is a big Freakonomics guy.

Description:
In Scorecasting, University of Chicago behavioral economist Tobias Moskowitz teams up with veteran Sports Illustrated writer L. Jon Wertheim to overturn some of the most cherished truisms of sports, and reveal the hidden forces that shape how basketball, baseball, football, and hockey games are played, won and lost.

Drawing from Moskowitz’s original research, as well as studies from fellow economists such as bestselling author Richard Thaler, the authors look at: the influence home-field advantage has on the outcomes of games in all sports and why it exists; the surprising truth about the universally accepted axiom that defense wins championships; the subtle biases that umpires exhibit in calling balls and strikes in key situations; the unintended consequences of referees’ tendencies in every sport to “swallow the whistle,” and more.

Among the insights that Scorecasting reveals:
Why Tiger Woods is prone to the same mistake in high-pressure putting situations that you and I are
Why professional teams routinely overvalue draft picks
The myth of momentum or the “hot hand” in sports, and why so many fans, coaches, and broadcasters fervently subscribe to it
Why NFL coaches rarely go for a first down on fourth-down situations–even when their reluctance to do so reduces their chances of winning.
In an engaging narrative that takes us from the putting greens of Augusta to the grid iron of a small parochial high school in Arkansas, Scorecasting will forever change how you view the game, whatever your favorite sport might be.
Durant with 52 points, 23-23 on free throws tonight. Awesome.

Also, Belinelli’s clutch game winner in OT is probably the most clutch shot of the season.

I’ll read that book eventually.

Currently getting through the rise and fall of the third reich then I want to read that way of men book that had a thread made about it. After that ill check it out.

Durant definitely had a crazy game last night. But he was cold as hell in the 4th. Had he shot decent in the 4th it never would’ve went to extras.

Also mike James reminded me last night why I’m
Glad he’s not a raptor any longer.

Yeah, OKC should have maintained a 6-10 point lead all the way through the buzzer. Durant and co. definitely wilted bad in the fourth quarter.

Is FG% reflects this, it was the free throws that really did it for him. Still an awesome performance. Im sure he has better ones in him than that though.

The most frustrating season of my life.

LOL LA isn’t even that far back. Portland is the 8 seed at 20-19, LA is 17-22. Houston has been struggling and pardon me if I’m not convinced Denver, Utah and Portland can play consistently enough as to confidently eliminate LA from the playoffs.

Honestly, the best scenario from my position of fandom (not being a huge OKC and LA fan) is that LA has the 8th seed and they play the Thunder in the first round. I don’t think the Lakers could beat the Thunder RIGHT NOW but LA’s potential, whatever that means, means you can’t rule them off. No one wants to play the Lakers in the playoffs, regardless of LA’s record.

I agree but with all of the talent that the Lakers have this season had been extremely disappointing so far. I wasn’t expecting the to have the best record in the league or anything but a top 3 team in the West was more along the lines of what I was expecting at this point.

There I still a lot of time to turn things around and they have been playing better as of late but it is still extremely frustrating to watch them play

Have to look at Pau Gasol. When Pau plays well the Lakers win. Look at the Lakers before he came in. They won those 2 championships because Phil Jackson was able to utilise both Bynum and Gasol in the paint. They still have the same length as those runs sans Odom.

Going to the Raps Lakers game today!

Undecided which jersey to wear.

Can’t believe Dwight Howard was ejected. Completely bullshit.

Kobe has been awful.
