Napoleon Dynamite

Actually, I think “Arrested Development” is the funniest, smartest comedy show I have ever seen on braodcast TV.

After that, there was this Jay Mohr show called “Action” which I had thought was the funniest, smartest comedy show I had ever seen on broadcast TV. It was cancelled mid-season, of course. (Arrested Development is about to be cancelled.)

Then, I’d have to say “The Larry Sanders Show” from HBO. Phenomenal.

Then “Curb Your Enthusiasm” from HBO. Of course, Larry David wrote something like 70 of the Seinfeld episodes, most of the more famous ones.

Then Seinfeld.

Those are my personal picks.

SHUT UP! SHUT UP! You don’t know what you’re talking about!!! (sob)
Why would you even say such a horrible thing?!

Couldn’t agree more. This show has restored my faith in humanity as the “anti-sitcom”.

Thank you! I’ve been trying to figure out the name of that show for a while now.

If you’re into intelligent comedy, then be sure to check out “The Office” (NOT the American version, but the original).

Cheers

The Office is awesome…but so painful to watch…I’ve never seen such awkward scenes before, or laughed so hard. You can probably rent it from Blockbuster.

Wait - Arrested Development is getting cancelled? I just got hooked. That’s good stuff…Bateman is the perfect contrast to his ridiculous family.

You just ruined my day.

Oh, and The Simpsons still rock.

The Office rules. Probably because I have a boss like David and the guy next to me is a carbon copy of Gareth.

Napolean Dynamite was the STUPIDEST movie ever made. They filmed it in my hometown and it still pisses people off around here that the world might think that people from Preston are as retarded as the Dynamite family. I’ll bet most people who frequent this site felt the testosterone bleeding from their bodies as they watched this boneheaded movie stumble around. Heaven save us from estrogen bloated males and boys who worship napolean dynamite.

I know, for myself, that I can tell the difference between a movie and real life. Do you actually think that folks around the country think that Preston is really like that? Gimmee a break.

It’s a funny movie. One of the funniest ever. Lighten up, guy. It’s supposed to be fun.

I live in Preston, Idaho. My name, my wife’s name, and two of my son’s names appear in the credits of Napoleon Dynamite. I teach at Preston High School, where daily, literally 20 or 30 people are getting their pictures taken in front of the school and walking the halls where Napoleon trod. I personally didn’t like the movie, and am amazed that it has had such a profound effect on some people. But, they are entitled to their opinions, just as I am. I worked directly with Jared Hess when he attended school. Napoleon Dynamite is an expression of Jared Hess and his personal experiences growing up in Preston, Idaho and attending Preston High School. That’s all. It wasn’t my experience, and it wasn’t any of my son’s experiences. Thiers would be more of a Friday Night Lights. I realize that most college students aren’t like Jon Belushi in Animal House. When my son, who attends Cornell University, watched it with his team mates, opinions were divided. Most were intelligent enough to realize that people and places can’t be judged based on a movie. When I went to New York, I didn’t find most New Yorkers were anything like the charactors on Sienfeld, or Friends. I was intelligent enough to distinguish between a TV sitcom., and most people’s real lives. Hopefully most people on this web site are intelligent enough to distinguish between a movie, and most of the people of Idaho. Of course, there are the people who need a hero and standard that is easy to attain. for them, perhaps Napoleon fits the bill. And, from what I have read, there are people on this web site who think black people are superior to whites because they eat sweet patatoes. Hopefully, I am intelligent enough so that even though I don’t live around a lot of black people, I won’t stupidly judge a whole race by one stupid comment. I also don’t judge them by the movie Friday Night, or nest Friday Night. So, did you enjoy the movie, Napolean Dynamite? Did you hate it? Remember, it’s a movie. Don’t base your views, or pick your heroes based on a movie. I invite people to travel to Idaho and form their own opinions. Especially now, the skiing is awesome.

Nope, it’s not fun. Watching stupid people act stupid is not fun. Watching social retards is not fun. Listening to people say GOSH is not fun. Think about the funniest movies ever, this one will never be listed among them. What an insult to every great comedian and comedic actor to say that this was one of the funniest ever. Damn, I think my testosterone just dropped off talking about this.

Yet you come back in here and post again. This is a fun thread. A bunch of the posts have nothing to do with the movie. The only person that seems to have a problem with this thread, is you.

Your fellow Prestonite gets it. Everyone else around here seems to get it. Hell, even Dave Barr started a new thread repleat with NP quotes. It’s called FUN.

If you’re having T-level problems, I can assure you it’s not because of this thread.

Actually, watching stupid people act stupid IS funny to many people.

And about your insult comment; Jim Carey, Jack Black, and Adam Sandler all said they liked the movie. So what, are they insulting themselves?

In fact I believe Black is working with Jared Hess on an upcoming movie.

GOSH you’re right. GOSH, JEEZ, DUH, it’s all so damn funny. Here eat some meat lama. Where’s my chapstick? Oh hell, that’s just sooo funny. Please stop you’re killing me. Thanks now I get it.

i reaally liked that movie. and it’s interesting to read these comments, especially zen nova’s perspective, because i live in an area where nobody liked it- they didn’t even show it within 50 miles - and so my perception is that nobody liked it anywhere and i don’t mention it cause it makes people think i’m even more of a weirdo than they already think i am. funny to realize there are places you don’t want to mention it because it’s been done to death…

i agree seinfeld and simpsons are awesome. lately i’ve been watching an old show called “all in the family” have you seen this show ? sometimes it’s the funniest stuff i’ve ever seen . reno -911 has its moments too.

SO you think Jim Carey, Jack Black, and Adam Sandler are stupid people? Interesting, I always thought they we’re fairly creative, intelligent, and innovative in their comedy. What would you expect a comedian to say about this movie? I’ve heard Leno say that a movie is a very good movie even when he’s never even seen it. I don’t think i’ve ever heard a comedian say that a movie made by someone else sucked. That’s not the hollywood way. Critics would, but not most actors. It’s called being politically correct. Finally, no, Jack Black is not currently or scheduled to work in the future with Hess. GOSH, I guess i’ll go drink some 1% so I don’t get fat. Funny stuff, that chapstick humor, and lamas too.

[quote]Blue75 wrote:

Being politically correct? I highly doubt it. In fact, many actors will go OUT OF THEIR WAY to talk about GWB and how horrible he is for America? Tell me that’s being politically correct?

Who said they were stupid? Learn how to read. You said, “What an insult to every great comedian and comedic actor to say that this was one of the funniest ever.”

That’s why I replied that those great comedic actors thought the movie was funny. If they are great and liked the movie, then maybe it is you who doesn’t get it.

Wrong. If it was just being politically correct, why would Adam Sandler personally call Jared Hess? Why would Jim Carey meet with him. And is it politically correct to say that you want to work with someone? Freakin’ idiot! Gosh!

http://www.utahstatesman.com/news/2004/11/03/Features/Preston.Holds.A.Festival.In.Honor.Of.The.Movie.That.Put.It.On.The.Map-791678.shtml

You are Correct! I don’t get it! Thank the stars above I don’t get it. And I hope I never do if it means going around saying stupid ass things in a stupid ass voice like GOSH, Freakin Idiot, and then laughing like I had proven something or said something smart. By the way I called my neighbors, the Hess family, (they live 200 yards away from me) and the meetings you refer to in the newspaper were set up by agents and were for PR, not a thing was discussed. It was a photo op with a prepared press release. How the hell did GWB make it into this? Politically correct means doing something to make or maintain an image. That’s why I said most actors don’t bash other actors or directors works. That’s my opinion, don’t care if you like it or not. Oh news flash, I met with Jared this past Thanksgiving, had a nice talk, and nope I won’t be staring in any upcoming movies, but I’ll bet my info is a whole lot better than yours.

Bill Engval would be proud. A guy from Idaho argueing with a guy from Texas and from Missouri about Napolean Dynamite on a testosterone magazine site. Heres your signs.

Things to do today:

  1. Have my head examined
  2. Take off the sign
  3. Get back to doing things that actually matter.

wow, I can’t believe someone can get so riled up over a movie. If you didn’t like it, just forget about it, man.

Is Blue75 actually on a crusade against this movie.

“…idiot!”

…but Xen and Hoosier have a HUGE point. The prevalence on college campuses is reaching Dave Chapelle/Lil’ Jon proportions, and that means brain cells are dying. That said, maybe it’s good to have a thread to which these things can be contained.

You hate Napoleon Dynamite then offer up Bill Engval as the example of funny? Gotcha.
