The issues are different at the national level than at the local level, and I support democrats nationally for the most part. I think you know this.

NJ is ridiculous. I can’t wait to get the fuck out of this state of never come back. The public unions in this state are so powerful and corrupt and the police are one of the worst violators. How the fuck can you justify having an average annual salary for a patrolman in this state being over $85,000 (not including overtime)?

Let’s compare shall we…A Staff Sergeant with 10 years in a combat infantry unit, deployed to Afghanistan, risking his life everyday, getting shot at by RPG’s, seeing his men die, leading a platoon of 40 men, out there humping 20-25 miles everyday, not being able to shower or have a hot meal for weeks at a time is making a whopping $40,000 a year, if that.

A 10 year patrolman in some rich, yuppie, NJ town who is out of shape and literally has the only job of enforcing arbitrary traffic and drug laws is probably making well over $100,000.

What a fucking joke. Oh and don’t even get me started on all of these municipal chiefs retiring early and raping the various towns coffers with their ridiculous pensions, health benefits, and hundreds of “unused” sick days.

Sometimes I wish I could become a politico. Eliminate the over powering control of the unions and allow junctions to be put onto the Union itself when a member acts in the interest of the Union. I’d also challenge them to a fisticuffs.

Having been an NCO in the US Army and now a Law enforcement officer in NJ I can explain it to you. In the military they pay you your salary, plus hazard duty pay, plus GIVE you a free place to live, plus pay for all your food and give you medical coverage with absolutely no copay. You get 40,000 dollars a year to spend on anything but living expenses. Now in the job I have I pay for my medical coverage, pay for all my food, have a mortgage with utlities to pay.

Well yes, and that is for certain because of some specific legislation that basically does not allow anyone to keep the unions responsible for their actions. I am not a union man, however some of their antics are useful, however their way of enforcing their antics are not.

Well, having been an NCO in a Marine Infantry Unit, and being deployed to 2 combat tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, I can tell you that grunts are some of the most underpaid people in the country.

Grunts are the backbone of the US military and they do all of the shit work. They are the ones that you read about dying everyday in the paper. If the infantry was actually paid in a way that would substantiate what they do they would be making more money than Wall Street CEO’s.

By the way…don’t even try to tell me that a chief of some 15 man department is worth 150 grand a year. I was responsible for that many men as a fucking corporal.

Don’t even think a town that is small enough to have a 15 man department should have a department. A large part of the problem in this state is the top heavy administrators. Police Chiefs, Superintedants and 35 vice principals. Can’t blame the rank and file.

You shouldn’t minimize what Law enforcement does, you wouldn’t like what you do minimized. If you are unhappy with your pay go OCS or get out. The whole reason I got out was the shit pay. I was all set for for phase 2 of SF selection. I did prc after airborne school, waited my time and did SFAS. When it came time to re up they basically spit in my face offering me something like a .5 bravo bonus. They were giving new recruits smaller contracts and larger enlistment bonuses than they offered me. I left and now I am making nice money and don’t have to risk my life in the same way I used to.
