My New Rifle

Being a conservative british type guy i thught id wondered into the wrong thread? What the fucks going on? Its like a tribute to cheesy 80’s war films (maybe commando). You should make a video of yourself getting kitted up to some music. Maybe ‘war’ by edwin star, as a tribute to Arnies scene in commando…

Seriosly though, how many times can you shoot/mame something? Why so many rifles? Do you shoot it then poke it with the stick?

Confused.

Ask the car collectors how many cars can you drive at one time? Not exactly the point is it?

Ask anyone that has an interest or a passion about anything a similar question.

Owning a gun and using it for target shooting/recreation, hunting for sport and/or survival or home defense is not about “war” or being a tough guy. It’s an interest, a hobby, a passion. The old saying “If I have to explain, you wouldn’t understand” rings truer in this case more than any other.

the springfield armory rifles are incredible pieces of machinery. i’ve never owned one because of financial reasons, but several of my relatives own one. always love getting to shoot it. normally i would never consider a rifle as home defense equipment, because of the consideration of the bullet going through your target and continuing on into your neighbors face, but i guess in ND things are spaced out enough to get away with it.

i’m currently waiting for a back order of the bushmaster m-17s. great gun as well.

I don’t really think it’s appropriate for home defense either, for the same reason you stated. I’ve got 2 shotguns that can be used for that.

Should I make a video and send it to you. Donning my armor, helmet, shield, and spear as I ride off to wage war against some gophers. Ha!!

Guns are just fun to shoot. I have no desire to ever use one on anybody. As far as the spear goes, I haven’t used it for anything yet, except for throwing it at some hay bales.

I would actually like to try hunting with it. Boar hunting with spears is gaining popularity, but it’s usually done with dogs, and we don’t have any wild boars in North Dakota. So I guess trying deer hunting with it is what I’d like to do. I’m not sure if it’s possible to stalk within thrusting distance of a white-tailed deer, (I think some skilled archers get this close sometimes) but if I ever accomplish that, I will consider myself a much better hunter than I am now. I’m also not sure if it’s legal either.

I think I would want some pretty tough Dogs to hunt a wild Boar. I used to live on a Pig farm. They are very tough and strong. The Dogs grab them by the ears and hold them. I think it would be next to impossible to kill a large one with out Dogs

who is using their shotties for home defense? i hope you don’t have a family. i feel sorry for anybody near the perp. when you unload a shitload o’ bb’s at them. i keep a shotgun, for use in the yard only, where my family won’t get hurt. for inside the house, it’s my springfield 1911-a1. hollow points as not to penetrate the walls.not that i am gonna miss or anything.

My queery was obviously in jest. I was thinking less this…

If you are going to use a shotgun for home defense, get some no. 7 shotshells. They will do a number on a person, but will not go through a bunch of walls and end up wounding innocents. Unless your interior walls are brick, that .45 will go through a bunch of them. Don’t believe me? Get some 2 x 4’s and some drywall and build up some small walls. Then shoot your .45 through them. See how many it will go through. You will be suprised.

So what are you feeding that dog?

Second this. If you have the space and/or time, set up some different tests. Also, there’s a guy that does a bunch of tests with different guns/ammo combinations to see what goes through what. His website’s pretty fun to read (for me anyway). www.theboxotruth.com

Nice collection you have there. I’m in the market for a pistol caliber carbine (.40 would be ideal). Any you would recommend?

they’re law enforcement hollow points. there is not really much there. nothing that wont shatter when it hits my plaster walls.besides, i actually only live with my girlfriend.

so i don’t have to worry about kids, just the dogs. i spend at least four hours a month at the range. so i can prevent any mis-haps. i have been through handgun safety courses, hunting class, and have three handguns, a shotgun, and a .308 winchester, bull barrel and sniper stock with a weaver 40mm scope. i shoot allot, and have been doing so for the majority of my life.

try your test with some law enforcement hollow points, you’ll see what i mean, i have.
