I had the small silver 1 Go one. Are they gonna come out with a new model? I can’t see how it can be any smaller though. I know there is also a 2Go model that has been out for a while.

…it’s your lucky day! Apple just announced the all new shuffle: Apple's redesigned iPod shuffle hits 4GB, talks to you (updated with video!) | Engadget

…it’s tiny, holds 4gb and no longer has any buttons! Instead the controller is in the headphone wire; nice isn’t it? Proprietary headphones, yay! Oh but wait, if you do care about soundquality you can ofcourse buy third party headphones, but they require a dongle and that’ll cost you extra! The new shuffle also needs iTunes 8.1, which isn’t released yet! But the best part is… it speaks to you! Yes, it tells you what playlist is next or what song will be playing!

…i suggest you do not jump on the bandwagon and buy another brand of mp3 player that has better DAC’s, simple drag 'n drop of files, a screen and buttons and does not need proprietary headphones. Anything but Apple basically (-:

Wow, what a coincidence. I had a feeling there was going to be a new one soon, from the “clearances” at BestBuy and FutureShop and no recent design change.

Ill just have to wait till this one comes out! I like the different playlists and 4Go. Controls seem easier to use, I sometimes had problems with the buttons on the clip or one would get pressed by accident.

Can’t come out soon enough.

Why do you people have nice MP3 players for the gym ?

Mine is a 4 gig something or another, its about the size of my thumb.

And cost me about 10 bucks online.

Runs on one AAA battery, which I have rechargeable nickle metal hydrides for.

I have now accidentally ran it through a washer AND a dryer 3 times now.

In addition to dropping it in a muddy puddle.

I let it dry out for a day and its fine.

Simple is better, it does the job just fine, and is basically invincible.

I don’t like ipods I have both a Ipod shuffle and a creative zen and I like the zen more but I take the shuffle to the gym because of the little clip.

I’ve had one shuffle break on me for no reason it just didn’t work so I took it back to the store and told them i just got it a month ago but it only last 6months so it was prob still under warranty.

I have had my zen now for 2 years and used it
5 days a week 4 hours a day and I have never had a problem with it.

I quit using my iPod shuffle. I quit liking iPods the moment I found out that you can’t even download songs you buy from their iTunes to any other media device. Here I was trying to be legit by buying the music in the first place, and they make it so I can’t even make a mix cd for mp3’s to play in the car.

I use a Sansa now and I like it more because of compatibility.
Sayy what?! I do what I want, and like hell Apple is going to tell me what to do with my legally purchased music. There are ways around this issue.

Exactly my thoughts. I also don’t get how people lift with their full sized iPods strapped to their arms. I personally use the Sandisk Sansa m250 for going to the gym. The thing is 2 gb, and has plenty of volume with the headphones I use (creative noise cancelling ones without the stupid noise cancelling box thing in the line which cost about 2x more than the mp3 player), it was dirt cheap (i.e. if I break it, it won’t cost a lot to replace), runs on AAA batteries (I just keep some spares in my gym bag - no need to recharge), and no digital rights BS to deal with (just drag and drop baby).

In the long run you will spend more on batteries. But I use mine a lot i guess but never with weights only cardio

I bought a 3 pack of rechargeable nicklemetal hydride AAA batteries.

I just throw one in a battery charger, keep one in the player, and one as a spare in the bag.

I dont spend money on batteries.

This isn’t exactly true. Sure, they don’t make it EASY to burn MP3 cds; but you can still burn an audio cd, and then rip that to mp3s on your hard drive. However there is some limit to how many times you can burn a playlist; iirc it is three. You still have a point.

I personally use iTunes, and love my iPod. It is the simplest mp3 player & music software I’ve ever used. I don’t mind the restrictions on copying since my daily usage doesn’t conflict with them.

Anyway, check this out: Newsroom - Apple

I quote: “January 6, 2009?Apple® today announced several changes to the iTunes® Store (www.itunes.com). Beginning today, all four major music labels?Universal Music Group, Sony BMG, Warner Music Group and EMI, along with thousands of independent labels, are now offering their music in iTunes Plus, Apple?s DRM-free format with higher-quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings.”

For those not familiar with the jargon, DRM stands for “Digital Rights Management.” It is the technology that prevents various forms of copying.

To the OP: get a friggin nano. How much is the 4 gig model? $100? I would go nuts if I didn’t have a screen.

fair call, i never used a charger with my old mp3 player. But thats going back awhile now 256 meg i think it was and top of the range haha.

iphone, iphone, iphone, and as far as osund quality, I baught a pair of bose ear buds and the sound quality compared to the original head phones is night and day.

lol, so I just wrote the above post, walk into my tv room and on the news they just spoke about a new ipod shuffle released today that is now smaller and better than the other one. Kinda freaky how that worked.

So the new shuffle is half the size, holds double the songs at 4gb, and speaks to you letting you know the song and artist as it switches tracks. Priced at 80 dollars.

apparently it dosnt have buttons? its all done by voice command or im talking aboout something else

No, that’s what I read too. So much using your own earphones on it, since the controls are built into the original ones.

Fucking gimmmicks.

Making an audio cd only allows maybe 17-19 songs to be downloaded and played. If it allowed mp3 transfers, I could store over 130 songs on one disk.

I don’t even need the disk anymore as a now have a radio that plays mp3’s on flash drives or even iPods, but it is more the simple fact that I don’t completely OWN music that I PAID for.

One more reason to jump ship before you end up buying 30 different products from them just so you can play your own music.

Yup, haha.

I have always hated Apple in general, mainly because PCs & co are way more customisable, you’re not confined to using only a certain product. The only thing I do have is an iPhone, and that’s pretty much were it’s going to stay. It is, sadly, the nicest phone I’ve ever used.

I fully understand that. I didn’t make it clear that you could then, with the mp3s on your hard drive, burn an mp3 disk.
Professor x wrote:

Indeed. DRM sucks, as it infringes on, IMHO, fair use rights.

However you never did own the music you paid for. You’re only buying a copy of the music, not necessarily a right to copy the music as you please, except within he confines of fair use. This is regardless of the medium. If you owned it, that would not be the case. It’s always been this way.

Also, be aware that DRM is NOT limited to online purchases. Some CDs are, or at least were, tampered such that they can’t be read by CD players in computers. Some tried to install software, admittedly very sheepishly and only on windows, to prevent copying on your PC if you put them in your computer.

Anyway, I still think itunes rocks. Plus, you know, you don’t HAVE to buy music on itunes to play it on your ipod. And anyway, a lot of the music is to be DRM free on itunes now.

(Edit: What portable music player do you use when you’re not in your car? Do you still use your iPod? Did you find something you think is better?)

Sansa or iRiver for me from now on. Not interested in using some earphones on a shuffle with no controls. I like getting better earphones anyways.

anything without a fast search sucks for anyone with over 50 songs. the constant clicking sucked, headphones started wearing out within a month.
