You think Mulholland Drive is all fucked up? Go watch Eraserhead [his first film] that’ll have you checking into a psych unit.
Generally I love Lynch, Twin Peaks, for example was brilliant, however, it’s true to say that Lynch is definitely an acquired taste. Then again, some people like Van Damme and Segal, who as far as I can see have less plot and characterisation than any Lynch film.
Lynch’s films, perhaps more than anything, are about observation and the potentialities that arise from those observations, most times he goes off into Lynch land, however he can play it straight. GO watch ‘The Straight Story’ which is all Lynch but a seemingly normal tale.
Eraserhead was not his first movie. Six Figures Getting Sick was his movie. Mulholland Drive sucks.
C’mon Alex, you’re being pedantic. The first four things he did before Eraserhead are short films, the one you mentioned being just on a minute long. Would you accept that Eraserhead was his first “non-short” film.
