Movies You've Watched This Week?

A few glitches, but overall entertaining with a twist.
you know how long it took me to make these triangles? 20 years.

Just saw Ghost Town. Solid, heart-warming movie, with really witty dialogue from Ricky Gervais.

The Passion of Joan of Arc, was pretty good actually.

If it’s the one with Maria Falconetti, her performance is rated like 27th of all time. I have one of the original movie posters…you are right, it is quite good.

I also hate the fact that the best actor to play that part will never be seen in that role again.

I’m not one to jump on the hollywood bandwagon but watching it for the 3rd time tonight… incredible portrayal of a character.

Completely agree. After watching Ledger in this movie I was trying to come up with a list of comparable performances. You watch this movie and you see The Joker. You don’t see Heath Ledger as The Joker. Whereas when Nicholson played The Joker you still saw The Joker as Jack Nicholson.

Comparable performances I could come up with were Tom Hanks as Forrest Gump or Dustin Hoffman as Rain Man.

I saw Twilight this weekend which I absolutely loved. It was fantastic. I love all of the books as well. Nothing compares.
I have had the Twilight books recommended to me so many times now, and I have noticed that everybody who loves the books were disappointed by the movie. Which is pretty standard. It’s so cliche it’s barely worth saying, but ppl still feel compelled.

Anyway, if I’m going to read vampire novels, I’m going to start with the Sookie Stackhouse novels, the ones True Blood were based on. It’s just my gut feeling preference right now. I’ve done my share of vampire reading, Anne Rice was queen and I did the rounds there. I’m down, I’m just gonna do it my own chronological way of what I think seems better.

I just watched that the other night. Not a terrible movie, but not a good one either.

The Day The Earth Stood Still. When I first got out of the theater I didn’t know what to think of this movie, but the more I think about it, the more dissatisfied I am. Other than a couple cool special effects (which were in the trailer) and the kid’s character (which I hated), the movie did nothing for me. My dad even said he liked the original better.

Gran Torino - Really good movie in terms of acting, direction. Saying that, it was a bit under-stimulating for me. I think my grandma would really enjoy this movie haha.

cam copy (althought you cant tell):

I’m pretty disatisfied as well. Neo played his part well and the whole concept was very intriguing, but I dunno–somthing felt off.

I’ll have to watch the original.

Porky’s - As mentioned in another thread, this was the first time I’ve seen this. I thought it was funny. It made me all nostalgic for films like this. I mess them. They just don’t do good, raunchy, high school-based comedies like this anymore.

Horton Hears a Who - This didn’t do anything for me. I also realized how much I hate the sound of Jim Carrey’s voice. I think Yes Man is going to suck, too. Fuck Jim Carrey.

Vulgar - Really weird movie from the View Askew guys. Brian O’Halloran (Dante from the Clerks movies) stars a clown that basically gets raped by a pervy old dude while his sons (one of them was played be Ethan Suplee) watch and film it. Later, after the main character has become a popular children’s show host, they blackmail him by threatening to release the video.

The rest of the movie deals with the main character deciding how to deal with the blackmailers. Also stars a young Kevin Smith, Jason Mewes and a few of the other View Askew guys. Just a weird movie though.

Lower Learning - Stupid movie about a corrupt principal that wants to shut down an elementary school so he can keep the millions in budget money that he’s been hiding. I had high hopes for this because it stars a lot of former The Daily Show correspondents and a few other funny people, but it was mainly just lame.

One of those movies where they made the kids act like mature adults and the teachers are the clueless ones.

Thinking XXX - Short documentary about porn stars. It’s interesting if you’re into porn at all.

Catch and Release - Stars Jennifer Garner, Timothy Olyphant and Kevin Smith. It’s about a woman who’s fiance dies and she starts to find out secrets about him that he’d been keeping from her. I thought it was boring. Just too long and slowly paced overall.

Also, kind of felt like they weren’t sure what type of movie they wanted to make here. Was this supposed to be a dark romantic comedy or an emotional drama? Seems like this would have been better if they would have picked to one of those and stuck with it. Instead this movie was uneven because it seemed to switch between the two.

The Aviator - Martin Scorsese’s biopic about Howard Hughes earlier years. I really liked it. Just a good story and kept me entertained despite it’s almost 3-hour run time. Also, great performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Cate Blanchett.

The Day The Earth Stood Still - Eh, this didn’t really do anything for me either. The effects were okay, but I thought there were just some huge plot holes throughout the movie and the dialog in certain parts is just pretty bad. I won’t spoil it here for those of your that haven’t seen it yet or still want to see it. I’d recommend waiting for DVD though.

Ok, I’ll play…

I also watched Horton Hears a Who…cute movie with a good lesson for the little kids.

-The Polar Express

-Pinocchio

-How the Grinch Stole Christmas

Tonight we are watching JACK FROST(for the 20th time)

*can you tell I have kids? oh, who am I kidding! I’d probably watch them if I didn’t have kids:P

“Bigger, Stronger, Faster”

“Zoolander”

“Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed”

“The Dark Night”

“Catch and Release”

I saw “Dead Man’s shoes” kinda low budget and a bit slow but, man I was watching it on the bus home on my MP4 player and I got so into it I ended up sitting on a bench watching the remaining 30 mins. I just couldn’t put it down and needed to know what it was they ‘did’.

Fuck Twilight and all the sexually frustrated women who read it.

The Stackhouse novels aren’t bad, they are actually weirder than True Blood if you can believe that.

First post of new page FAIL. LOL!

Watched Paprika and Fist of the North Star.

Paprika was really cool, awesome visuals and a really messed up story. I was really into it the whole time, trying to figure out what the flying fuck was going on half the time, but into it nontheless.

Fist of the North Star, blew chunks. I never even finished it, to me it was just senseless animated violence. However, it was funny as shit. I laughed so hard during some of the fight scenes with the vocals. I almost peed my pants.
Lamesauce

Can remember watching The Day Earth The Stood Still, along with War Of The Worlds as a kid.
Both of the remakes were disappointing. Some how the producers needed to make human interest stories.

Transporter 3 was a pleasant surprise considering number 2. Jason Staham is looking very buffed. Didn’t see any leg shots
but appears to have added upper body mass, with low body fat.

Going To Pieces: The Rise and Fall of The Slasher Film - If you’re into slasher flicks, like I am, I thought this was an interesting documentary about them. It basically talks about the history of slasher flicks and how they have evolved over the years.

The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor - I thought this was awful. Just a lame story and characters. Bad dialog and effect. This movie has totally solidified Brendan Fraser as one of my top 5 worst actors.

The Hoax - Interesting movie about the guy that tried to publish an authorized biography about Howard Hughes, despite never having met him and not having his authorization. I thought it was interesting to see the web of lies he created and how he fooled most everyone right up until the end. Pretty good performances by they cast, including Richard Gere, whom I normally can’t stand.

Brokeback Mountain - Finally got around to seeing this. For all the hype, I thought it was lame. I know it’s lame to say it was too gay, but it was. It was both ‘gay’ and ‘ghey’. Plus, I hated how the story seemed to take place over a 20 year period of time, but nobody except the kids seemed to age.

Superstar - Wasn’t expecting much, and didn’t get much. Sometimes a movie like this can surprise you can be funny. This is was not one of those times.
