Movies You've Watched This Week?

I saw max payne this week. Complete waste of time. Has anyone seen body of lies? Is it any good?

I watched Quarantine this week.

It is much better than I expected. I thought it would be a blatant rip-off of 28 days later, or a stupid shock-horror movie like Saw part 25, but no…I was impressed.

The Strangers. dumb fuckin movie. It had my heart going a few times which was good, but WTF?

hahaha…I don’t know if you saw my comments about it a few posts above, but I pretty much agree. It got me to jump a few times, but it was pretty fucking stupid. They had a shotgun! How do you still lose?

I saw it last night.

The first 30-minutes was tooooooo slow, the middle to last part was never wracking, and then the end was a bit of a let down.

But the tense scenes were good

I watched a movie called Pi

Max is a genius mathematician who’s built a supercomputer at home that provides something that can be understood as a key for understanding all existence. Representatives both from a Hasidic cabalistic sect and high-powered Wall Street firm hear of that secret and attempt to seduce him.

Jews and Wall street…hurray.

If “gay” were a physical object that could be amassed into piles, then “The Strangers” would be an ENORMOUS PILE OF GAY. I can’t remember the last time I was so disappointed with a movie that looked so cool.

Very much enjoying AMC’s Halloween marathon.

i saw tell no one the other day. so good. a french film about a doctor who loses his wife when they are attacked and eight years gets involved in a mystery when he is contacted by email…suspense action humor bad guys.

v for vendetta bored me when i saw it on the big screen. watched the blues brothers and empire strikes last week on cable. still great.

That’s what I said. Anyone who’s played Halo knows the shotgun is one of the most badass weapons in the universe. That, and the rifle butt.

I watched the movie Leatherheads.

Some people may have found it boring, I liked it. Just for the end scene if anything, a little mudball. The early days of gridiron. I can’t say if it was anything close to an honest description though, afterall it was a movie, Clooney or not…here I come. I really found myself longing for the old days that I never lived in. I’d give the movie a C+

I also watched Hard Candy finally.

It was a decent movie…but I do think it was a little unrealistic. There was a million times I could see where the man could’ve overcome that little pixie. Other than that, I appreciated the message. Ellen Page did a good job and was believable, to an extent. I give the movie a B …

Molotov Siskel signing out

Next - I for the most part enjoyed this movie, save for THE WORST FUCKING ENDING IN THE HISTORY OF CINEMA! What the fuck was that?! To end the movie like that was a slap in the face to everyone who watches the thing. It makes I am Legend look like a masterpiece of a closer.

It’s like the took a really interesting idea and then at the last minute decided to take a big shit on it. Oh well…

The Incredible Hulk - Saw this in the theater but bought it when it came out on Blu-Ray this week. I actually enjoyed it more the second time. I just noticed more details about the plot and characters this time. They really did a good job with this one. It’s a shame it did do better at the box office, but I think people were confused by the whole ‘is this reboot or a sequel’ thing.

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada - This movie was interesting, but a little too long for me considering a lot of it was just scenic shots of them riding on horseback. I mainly watched it because I’ve always liked Tommy Lee Jones. I could take or leave this movie overall though.

Expelled - Interesting documentary by Ben Stein about teachers and scientists that are being ridiculed or fired for believing in Intelligent Design or for suggesting there might be evidence of design. I’m not going to go into that issue here, but I thought it was worth watching.

Startup.com - A documentary about the rise and fall of a website that fell during the dot-com bust. I thought it was paced kind of weird. There were parts where I found myself totally engaged in the story and then other times when I was completely tuned out. In the early part of the movie it seemed there were too many scenes of one of the guys talking on the phone. Again, I think overall this was just okay for me.

The Go-Getter - The story just seemed too out there and far fetched. A guy steals Zooey Deschanel’s car and then she calls him over and over on the phone as he’s driving around and they develop a relationship over the calls. I just thought it was kind of lame.

Motel Hell - I saw this movie a long time ago as a kid and I wanted to watch it again as it an adult to see how I would feel about it now. I only remember there being nudity in it when I saw it as a kid. There still is nudity, but it doesn’t have the same effect now. Nudity in slasher flicks from the 70’s just isn’t the same as the nudity in slasher flicks today. This movie is just pure B movie cheesiness though. I did think it was funny to see John Ratzenberger from Cheers as one of the victims. In the credits, his character is listed as “Drummer”.

Black Snake Moan
Well, going in I thought I’d hate this movie, but I actually ended up liking it. Christina Ricci is a really strong actress and Samuel L. Jackson also delievered a good performance.

The only thing that drug the movie down for me was Timberlake’s performance. Very weak.

Joaquin Phoenix dropped quite a shocker at Monday’s Paul Newman tribute, announcing his plans to quit acting.

“I want to take this opportunity … to give you the exclusive and just talk a little bit about the fact that this will be my last performance as an actor,” the two-time Oscar nominee told Extra. “I’m not doing films anymore.”

“Are you serious?” asked the stunned interviewer Jerry Penacoli.

“Yeah. I’m working on my music,” Phoenix insisted. “I’m done. I’ve been through that.”

The 34-year-old performer gave no further details on his career plans - but he has been working on a record for some time British band The Charlatans.

Phoenix, who co-stars in the upcoming romantic drama “Two Lovers” with Gwyneth
Paltrow, first learned to play guitar for his Academy-Award-nominated role as Johnny Cash in 2005’s Walk The Line.
He was also nominated in 2000 for his supporting role in “Gladiator.”

hahaha…that’s funny. Actors giving up acting to pursue music has almost always worked out well for them. Anyone remember the name of Keanu Reeves band? I think I have a copy of Bruce Willis’ album laying around somewhere.

Funny thing is, the opposite seems to be less of an issue. There are lots of examples of successful musicians crossing over into acting careers and still being taken seriously.

And this is the part where everyone chimes in with examples to prove me wrong.

Dog Star? Star Fish? Something like that…

Singing careers appear to be working for Lindsay Lohan and Scarlett Johansson.

Screwed - This was an older movie that I had never seen, but rented based on the strength of the cast. Norm MacDonald, Dave Chappelle, Danny DeVito, Sarah Silverman. I thought this was going to be a slam dunk of inappropriate humor. It ended up being a waste of time and a waste of a cast. Not funny at all. Just stupid.

Hell Ride - Short, but ultimately pointless movie about a showdown between rival biker gangs. I’m not even really sure why they were fighting. I think a girl was involved, but only one gang really even knew who the girl was. I just didn’t think the story was very good. The good part is that it had lots of hot chicks and nudity. It had that going for it at least.

Dead Space: Downfall - If you’re playing the game Dead Space, then you’ll probably enjoy this as a lead-in/backstory to the game. On it’s own though, I thought it was pretty awful. Lots of plot holes, bad characters, and it borrowed (ripped off) way too much from better Sci-Fi movies.

I finally watched “Crank” last night. I’m trying to convince myself that this was really the director of photography’s demo reel and he convinced a studio to buy it. It was nothing but crazy shot after crazy shot lumped together with some horrible attempts of acting.

After Transporter 3, I have the over/under on Jason Statham only being in direct-to-DVD movies at 2. He and Vin Diesel are going to be this generation’s Jean Claude and Steven Seagal.
