Movies that Actually Scare You

Ill just say when I started in the field you NEVER heard of MRSA (staff infection). Look where that is now, we stay a step ahead of the bugs. Barely.
Mrs. (Dr.) Jewbacca showers the second she gets home from the hospital. Refuses to touch our child until after.

I cut myself rather badly in the yard 6 months ago — she stitched me up on the backyard patio table — doesn’t want us anywhere near the hospital, let alone the ER.
You guys are freaking me out now.

This movie was weird, really really weird, scary and extremely disturbing:

Audition (J-horror)

Rec was awesome, some bits were scary/jumpy but Audtion is a psychological horror and is really creepy. Highly recommended! The Descent wasn’t bad.

Heh, Imhungry, that was the moment.

I didn’t find Audition scary but god was it disturbing. I’ve watched quite a few Asia Extreme movies and they certainly have the disturbing/psychological part down well. I’d rather see something like that than bland American teens being picked off by a masked killer or monster.

I found Rec rather disappointing, tbh - I expected it to be awesome but it turned into yet another virus/zombie movie.

When I was a kid, I saw The Dark Crystal in the theater with my dad. I cried and sat backwards in the seat so I didn’t have to see. The wierd thing is that the “good guy” main characters freaked me out way more than the bad bird dudes. That movie still gives me the creeps.

As an adult, Sixth Sense freaked me out for some reason. Slasher movies don’t get to me, but good suspense does.
I was just going to say “Dark Crystal” those puppets were creepy.

Creepshow I and II.

And it sounds silly saying it since it’s been so parodied and copied, but The Blair Witch Project was hands down one of the scariest pieces of film I had ever seen when it came out. I saw it in the theater and was home alone that night and for the first time in years I was genuinely scared to be in the house by myself.
x2 for Blair Witch

Paranormal Activity was scary too.

But these kinds of movies are only really scary the first time around.
imhungry wrote:
The Exorcist III freaked me out, also. Not many movies do, though.

Agreed. I’m not sure why, but this movie was scary as hell. Just had a really creepy atmosphere. No where near as good as the original, but still quite scary.

Forgot to mention Children of the Corn. That was, and still is one of the most unsettling movies I’ve ever seen.

I also nominate it for having the creepiest horror film music ever. Better than Halloween, Friday the 13th…anything.

Would someone mind doing explaining this scene to me because it looks very very cheesy. Im guessing you need to see the whole movie?

Hostel. Supernatural never scares me, but real world possibilities are another thing.
Polar opposites. I feel like I can at least fight back humans but with supernaturalentities, I feel hopeless.

some stephen king movie I watched as a kid, (the plague I think?) all got to me.
The Stand, haha. Good book.
Is the story line where like the devil comes to earth and fucks with everyone or something? All I remember is some old lady playing on a banjo/guitar and he hands just start pouring blood.

Had to have mommy sing to me until I fell asleep, woke up from a nightmare then slept in my parents bed for the next 3 night haha

Paranormal Activity

 1. Blair Witch: the Mary Brown character creeped me out for a week.
 2. Exorcist: (It’d be a politcal oversight not to include it!)
 3. Exorcism of Emily Rose:
 4. Paranormal Activity
 5. Open water
 6. “left behind” I went through a christian phase… this was super scary from that point of view!
 7. WIzard of oz. Not the movie, but the opening dee dee dee dee dee thing to somewhere over the rainbow. Call me a wingnut.

Later
Peter

Ah yes, Prince of Darkness was pretty cool.

The NeverEnding Story - G’mork freaked me the fuck out as a child. One of the few characters that ever gave me nightmares.

Honestly, that movie is a little freaky … that and the boat ride in Willy Wonka were a little intense for kids movies

the Exorcist, original Alien (1977) and john carpenters the Thing (1986).
The Thing came out in 1982 … that is all

Child’s Play didn’t scare me, but the original Puppet Master freaked me the fuck out … I think I was 5 when I saw it at a babysitters house. She had older kids who were fuckin’ assholes and they basically locked me into a room and made me watch it. That might be the only movie that’s ever given me nightmares. I remember they did that same thing with Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Child. I was more of less still thinking about Puppet Master that I couldn’t really pay attention to NoES. Fuckin’ trailer trash.

Angel Heart needs to be mentioned. Rourke at his best. DeNiro is a great devil. Noir horror and great acting.

jesus, how is Paranormal Activity on the radar for this thread/
