I have been doing this for years and, I’m sorry, but it’s nowhere near as much fun as having another person there. Training with another enthusiastic person is always more fun.
I’m just wondering how to motivate him to learn on his own. In the long run, I’ll keep training with him regardless. But if there’s a way, I’d like to know and help him out.
You can toss out interesting ideas, facts, concepts etc. every once in a while and if he seems interested tell him to check out __________ at __________. If he is interested, he will look. Maybe he will discover there is more than porn on the internet.
Hm. I’ve been doing this and he seems content to just take my word on it. Even when he disagrees, he isn’t willing to put in the time to really get to the bottom of it himself.
What is is that makes a topic interesting enough to someone for them to research it in their spare time?
Instead of trying to change him to make him more suitable to you (and quite likely driving him away in the process) maybe you should just accept him for who he is and enjoy the good things about your workout relationship?
If he asks your opinion on stuff then by all means share your knowledge. But speaking on pesonal experience here: there’s nothing more off-putting than someone being in your face telling you what they think you should know.

Exactly. Accept him for who he is and enjoy the workout.
That’s the problem with women, you’re always trying to change us.

LOL. I have a feeling both this guy and the boyfriend would be pretty uncomfortable with that idea.
His or yours or both?
Mine. He(my workout partner)'s a very innocent, Catholic-raised, easily-freaked out, black-and-white-thinking, type of dude who, in addition to being much to young and innocent to be dragged into a swinging relationship, now has a girlfriend. I’m pretty sure the Catholic guilt would eat him alive.

Well there’s your answer: Catholic guilt. Find some way to use that to your advantage.
Give the priest at his Church $5 to tell him that Satan begat Kix or something.
