Only the grandson of 2 Nazis could believe that that would ever come to pass. [/quote]

I’m not related to Nazis and I’m almost positive it will come to pass. Look at the type of people you inhabit the planet with and tell me you honestly don’t see some form of mass murder on a larger scale happening (hint: Middle East fundamentalism).

FightinIrish, I live in Chicago, in the city. NYC is a terrible place. I’ve been there numerous times and it’s just terrible.

If they opened a mosque in NYC, that would either be a lot like Y2K. Or, a powder keg. Over time, it would probably be both.

The faxt that they choose to open it on Sept 11th means they are rubbing shit in our faces.

Then stay in Chicago. NY don’t need you.

While the Islam religion or Muslims as a whole can’t be blamed for the terrorist attacks, building a mosque right next to the site is an blatant sign of disrespect. In bad taste, at the absolute best.

Would this mosque be being built there if 9/11 didn’t happen? Meaning, is there a legitimate practical reason for it to be built there? And the answer is almost certainly no: it is being built SOLELY to prove a point, and then you have to ask yourself what the point is.

This is a fairly poor example but hopefully you can see what I’m driving at. Lets say your son was killed by a certain type of gun. A year later to the day, the killer’s relatives give you the same gun (for whatever reason, idk). The relatives aren’t the one who did the killing, or the gun, yet it is for goddamn sure a slap in the face (understatement).

Legally or technically, can or should this be stopped? Maybe not, as that might undermine certain principles of freedom. But it is really just a dick move, and a bit of taking advantage of the freedom allowed in our country. Maybe I can come up with a better example later. This may be reading between the lines a little bit, but to me, this reads as “We are not sympathetic to what happened. We may not condone the way the extremists went about their business, but we agree with the sentiment.”

For Christ sake, can none of you send an email to them and ask them what they were thinking?

If their answer is “death to all infidels” you know where you stand, but to always expect the very worst of people and get all butthurt is no way to live.
