Because profit doesn’t distort anything does it? Look at how awful our “healthcare” system is. Whatever makes the most profit for shareholders is what is pursued. So if a treatment is out there that alleviates suffering but more money can be made off of a trash-like drug, what will be pursued? The drug. Remember it’s all about profit. So in the end it’s all about your worshiping capitalism.
And how much of those funds are funded by government?
And yet when asked, you’ve never explained it.
What are you talking about? He’s posted multiple links to hours-long videos, without giving a time at which the question is answered, to answer those questions.
Have explained it plenty of times.
Then educate yourself and watch the whole damn thing or do you not have the attention span?
I, for one, certainly have the attention span to watch hour-long videos on many subjects. You have not presented a compelling reason to watch THESE particular videos. 90% of your posts are essentially ‘educate yourself!’, ‘profit corrupts!’ or similarly short quips. You rarely type more than 2 lines.
Probably my favorite thing I’ve seen Nick say on here, lol. Your ‘explanations’ are so simplistic and generic that it’s hard to find any real compelling reason to take a deep dive into the thing you believe in here. If MMT is such a favorable system, you should be able to present MUCH better arguments for it in this forum than you have so far. Gulliver’s doing a much better job here than you are.
If you can come up with a really solid, compelling post in favor of MMT, I’ll watch an hour of video. If you come up with another one, I’ll watch a second hour.
@castoli711, I’m going to post an article that is estimated to take nine minutes to read. Can you counter the article, or post an article that does?
It sometimes does.
If being fed erroneous information that has a direct negative effect on people’s lives is not motivation enough for you. It is for me.
MMT is the only thing that can bring about a Green New Deal and reparations.
H?is economic ethos can be distilled down to essentially one thing. Anything for more profit. If profit can’t be made it isn’t worth it.
With trillions spent on the mid-east wars and no one asking “How ya gonna pay for it?” and that question only being asked if someone proposes a social program. Curiosity ought to be piqued. At least one would think. If you don’t think it curious or compelling that you are being lied to by politicians and mainstream news pundits then you wouldn’t be interested in MMT. Propaganda is fine for the ruling class.
You’re missing the point. All you’re doing is saying ‘you guys are wrong’, and THAT is the problem. You’re not doing a good job of explaining why everyone else here is wrong, and why people should be taking your sources seriously. You’re literally doing exactly the same thing as QAnon, the whole ‘open your eyes!’ strategy. I don’t go down rabbit holes unless I have reason to believe there is ACTUALLY truth in them in the first place. That is, specifically, the thing you aren’t providing. A compelling reason to believe that your sources are more correct than others.
@castoli711 and as a side note: I read all of @doogie s sources, because they are in written form. Surely you can provide something that isn’t a video? I can read this material much more easily than sitting through a podcast. I really don’t understand why so many people rely so heavily on videos for their information today. The written word is still my favorite source of information.
I’ve been trying to stay mostly out of PWI. It can be a time suck. I won’t make any statements about your or other people’s arguments, but I have been wondering why you are making these threads, and or posting in a lot of the related threads.
I just wonder that because it seems like an uphill battle for you here. There are only a few people here on T-nation’s politics section left of center by US standards (myself in that group). Those will be the easier people to convince on this type of thing, and it doesn’t seem like you’ve been successful in that regard.
I guess I am just asking for your motivation, because I don’t get it. To be fair, I don’t really understand everyone else on these threads arguing with you either. I think you (and everyone else) are pretty much at an impasse.
@castoli711 is simply bringing the University of Phoenix to T-Nation whether we like it or not. And if you don’t like it the Professor will berate you unmercifully.
Or… as sad as it might seem, he is just looking for a friend with which to converse.
For the same reason my thought process was turned around. I was given books to read that challenged my thought process. These were given to me by a former college roommate. It took me quite some time to read them. I was like the vast majority of people on this forum. Just ignorant and believing the daily propaganda.
I don’t know about that. You’ve never posted in anything but politics on a this forum. It’s a work out forum bud, do you lift?
so in turn, you’re sharing podcast links? Jesus dude.
The fact that you’re talking to someone who is already very liberal, and has very little patience for your inability to communicate your ideas in an effective manner should tell you something. If you can’t convince ME to listen to you, good luck on anyone else here.
I double majored in philosophy and psychology in undergrad, with a MUCH heavier emphasis on the philosophy. I was reading philosophy of all kinds, for hours a day. I assure you I can read, and I can assure you that my mind is open to new ideas. But they have to be good ideas, and they have to be presented in a reasonable manner. Do those things, and people may listen. No reasonably intellectual person wants to fuck with your podcast links.
I guess my question then is, how did you come to the conclusion that those books were correct, vs your previous beliefs about economics?
Not true.
Because things began to make sense. Like when the mainstream economists are fear-mongering about the debt for decades, but nothing happens.
You can’t learn from podcasts? Will post something to read then.
