If the Phillies win in 4 or 5 games, I change my avatar to yours
If the Giants win, or push it to a game 6 or 7, you change your avatar to mine. Deal?
You consider not getting embarrassed a victory? Stay strong, National League…
Nothing wrong with being a realist. Have you never bet with a spread?
Its called being a Giants fan.
Try it for a few decades.

No one will ever be able to properly describe the eternal pessimism and finely-honed sense of doom that Giants fans carry around their neck like a millstone, day in and day out. These playoff runs they occasionally go on are nothing more than the last few steps at the top of Sisyphus’ hill. The generally poor Bay Area sports scene the last couple years only enhances the perception amongst Giants fans that each summer is a different Greek tragedy that we are forced to endure in perpetuity.
I was attempting to convey this concept to my roommate. She is from Chicago. She was just puzzled and said “but its not like you totally get your asses kicked.”

AL - going 7 games

Im the most confident phillies fan ever, and even I don’t believe the phillies will score more than 4 runs in any of the games. Pitching is why all these teams are remaining. I just don’t see the giants scoring more than 1-2 (or any in halladays) games.

The Giants roughed him up for 10 hits and 5 runs earlier this year. They put Hamels out in the fifth after five runs and they’ve beaten Oswalt three times this year. This and the Giants pitching are my only sources of optimism.

That wasnt a serious NL prediction at all lol.
My guess is phils in 5. Giants will blow a late lead at least once. One blowout from one of the teams.

Whatever team wins the NLCS, will win the World Series.
The pitching staffs in the NLCS blow the ones in the ALCS out of the water, by a long shot.
BOOM!

The Phillies are the only good team in the NL. Any other NL team making the World Series would mean a sweep for the AL.
I think the Giants would match up pretty well against the Rangers, and I’d like their chances against the Yankees as well. If the Giants make it to the Series, they’ll have a ton of momentum after a big upset like that.
I like the Phillies chances a lot against any team in the AL.

I agree with your assessment of the Phillies but I’ve noticed that NL centric MLB fans really underestimate how much better AL offenses are. The Yankees SP stats aren’t as impressive as the Phillies or Giants but the Yankees numbers are compiled against much better offenses.
The Yankees play each of these teams 18 times:
Red Sox - perennial contenders
Rays - In the middle of their contending years
Jays - have 7 20+ HR hitters (8 if you include Alex Gonzalez who hit 17 of his 23 HR’s with the Jays before being traded)
The competition in the NL West doesn’t even compare. Rangers also play AL East teams 40+ times a year (that includes the Orioles though).
I know some of Roy Halladay’s success in the NL is due to facing hitters who have never seen him but still. Look at how much his ERA has dropped this year compared to last year or even his career ERA.

His era this year was 2.44, not THAT much lower than his era of 2.78 and 2.79 in the last couple years.

That’s more than a 10% drop in ERA, you don’t consider that significant? Come on now. And it’s almost 20% lower than his average ERA over the last 5 years.
