I refuse to answer calls or emails after hours and will laugh if it rings while I’m on vacation. The idea that a company owns your off-time especially when you’re on the vacation you “earned” needs to die.

Let’s be honest, women are to blame. No man would come up with a participation trophy. Most teachers are women. Woke activists? Mostly women. Everywhere I’ve worked, anything pointless and stupid had a woman behind it.

But we live in the US. Try to emigrate to Denmark… See if you can and how much it will cost you. If having a good work/life balance that is your thing, go for it. There are alot of areas you can do that, especially in the Central Plains states. Brain drain going on there.

As for cost of living vs wages, I agree. So? Nothing we do is changing that within the immediate near term, so better learn how to operate within what we have.

Boomers did this to both their parents and kids, and are likely to be one of the last generations to get social security and retirement payments.

Then they go on to rail against millennials for being too entitled.

Good for you (Seriouly). Glad that works for you. If that is your goal, there are places you can go to work where they will also make you take a 15 minute break every four hours and usually have good benefits. Typically, you lose out on take home pay. If you are a double dipper, it works fine. Raising a family, may be tough.

Gotta make decisions on what works for you and what you want.

I think it’s important to remember that past generations that “were tough” also just had much higher mortality. Babies, and kids, and young adults were all much more likely to die of various diseases and accidents. The survivors were probably tougher for it. But part of that is probably just a filtering situation.

I kind of wonder if genetic problems are getting worse because we are keeping people in the gene pool. It’s just interesting to consider all of the genetic problems that are still around even though they would have probably been fatal in the recent past (say 100 years ago). How do those things even still exist?

I had lasik surgery a few years ago, but before that my sight was so bad that I could barely get around without glasses. My myopia is genetic. How did my ancestors survive with no lasik and poor access to glasses?

It shouldn’t have to be someone’s goal. It should be how it is.

Lot’s of “should’s”. Also, it is putting your believe on others.

Just because you don’t want to do that doesn’t mean others, possibly competition, aren’t excited to be included in the process, getting a project complete or standing out for promotion. Investing 10 minutes on the phone gets them noticed, they are good. While you are laughing at the phone, they may be grinning that no one else is stepping up. Such is capitalism

My point was that, the expectation by management that you should work for free during your off hours or while on earned vacation is a corporate sentiment that needs to die. It’s absurd.

Yes, there are a lot of should’s because boomers helped to perpetuate a system where if you don’t work for free you might not get ahead in life.

This isn’t me complaining either. I’ve paid my dues. I’ve worked the 12on/12off shifts in places where English isn’t even a 2nd language. This particular norm is just a dumb one in my opinion.

Good for them. Work for free and hope it leads to success in the future. I don’t care and is not what I was talking about anyway.

Yes as a person that will work for free. Hard work and effort is often rewarded with… more work not more pay. I know this for a fact first hand.

Cool, I’m enjoying time with my family and they’re working for free and I’ll still move up as my work product during working hours is as good if not superior to theirs.

This is a tired excuse. I am lucky enough I could probably emmigrate (I make 6 figures and have an in demand field of education). There are plenty of studies that show shorter work weeks (like 35-36 hours) do not actually cause a drop in productivity.

It should be everybody thing as it directly leads to happier longer lives.

Even these areas are not the bargain you are implying here.

The seeds that caused the issues were not sown yesterday.

We are good. I get where you are coming. I stopped after 34 years of talking people through projects from driveways while everyone inside. You do get to a point where you stop, but usually that is when you get enough income to stop. What I will do now, is much different than when I had kids.

Current situation is not ideal, alot of us having to work until 70. Fine if health is good and you like what you do. Misery if not.

Some would, others would thrive. There is no generational issue, there are individual issues. At some point, it becomes a “ME” issue. (Myself included)

And they were never “empowered” to sell their bodies for money, on a phone they held in their hand, with a camera that took better pictures than were possible when we landed on the moon.
