Unfortunately, Michelle, she apparently took a kick to the hock in the pasture. it broke the skin and infection has gotten into her bone. They will perform surgery today and hopefully be able to stop the spread of infection. Since they will have to take some bone out, she will be finished as a performance horse but may still be good as a trail/pleasure horse. If they cannot stop the infection spread, sepsis will set in which case we will put her down since it is not a pleasant death. All our horses are pets to us so we get rather upset when one is injured. However, Tufts University is about the best equine hospital in the country so she has a pretty good shot at recovery.
