Living in Smalltown, USA

All I could think about when I read this was seeing a couple horses rolling like the little dog.

Lol!

I love Maine though. Actually all of northern New England is absolutely gorgeous.
It’s as nice as it is in the movies, right? I really want to go there for a vacation from reality. Small town on the water. I’d love that.
Most parts of the state really are beautiful. Unfortunately, you can’t eat the landscape and the economy sucks. Beyond that, the few weeks of summer we have make the other 10 months of the year bearable. No real violent crime in any significant numbers, couple murders a year that make statewide news.

Actually, most don’t mind Winter as it’s a state of outdoor activity. We get snow and people come out to play. It’s funny, around the neighborhood where I am, after we get some base snow, every time it snows, you can hear snowmobiles fire up all over.

I spent a weekend on Diamond Island and I would say Maine is a great place for a totally relaxing getaway. It is so beautiful there. Very, very small town, slow pace area.

Skowhegan woman scares off intruder

SKOWHEGAN – An elderly woman threatened to shoot a man who was trying to break into her home on Thursday afternoon, scaring him off.

As the intruder attempted to jimmy the door to her house on Turner Avenue, the woman told him she had a gun and would use “every bullet in it,” according to her longtime neighbor, Alfred Groder. The woman, who was unavailable for comment, is in her 70s, according to Groder.

As of Thursday night, police were still searching for the man who they said was wearing a gray jacket and black pants.

The woman had been watching TV in her front living room when she heard a noise, said Groder, who spoke with her after the attempted burglary.

LMAO-- this one made TV news spot…

Maine barred owl caught after headhunting spree in Bethel

BETHEL â?? It took a few days, but state wildlife biologists on Sunday captured a barred owl that had been decapitating chickens inside a Bethel barn and flying off with their heads.

Wildlife biologist Chuck Hulsey said the owl was taken on Monday to Avian Haven, a wildlife rehabilitator in Freedom.

â??It was probably under a lot of stress and is going to rehab, which won’t hurt it,â?? Hulsey said Tuesday.

He said the owl was killing about one chicken a day at a Bethel barn when he was notified of the situation.

"Chickens are too large for a barred owl to carry off, "so it just chews the head off and leaves with the head; not a whole lot of nutrition,â?? Hulsey said.

â??Not really that great for the farmer, (either),â?? Camuso said. â??Owls will often eat the head of an animal first. There are some nutrients in the brain that they like, like minerals in particular. Usually, owls and weasels are kind of notorious for eating heads.â??

Norway (Maine) man drives his Honda to the 1 million mile mark

SACO, Maine ? A Norway man hit a milestone for car maker Honda this month when his car became the first documented vehicle by the Japanese maker to hit 1 million miles.

Joe LoCicero, 53, was honored on Sunday by a parade in Saco put on by Honda, where he was presented with a brand new Honda Accord.

While some parts have had to be replaced, LoCicero says his 1990 Honda is still running on its original engine and transmission. He bought the car in 1996 when it had 74,000 miles on it and has maintained it through the years using only Honda-approved parts.

Oh jeez…Maine is definitely another world!

A longtime high school football coach in Maine has resigned after one of the more embarrassing and bizarre social media snafus in recent memory (if not of all time) when he accidentally posted a nude photo of himself on Facebook. The lewd photo was viewable by the general public and was recognized by a parent of a player on his football team, leading to the coach’s self-imposed departure.

DUHHHHHHH!!

ACCIDENTALLY?

How the hell did he post it accidentally?

Oh, and I suppose Jerry Sandusky accidentally sexually abused teen boys in the shower.

Cushing man gets jail for striking estranged wife with genitalia

ROCKLAND, Maine - A 62-year-old Cushing man will spend five days in jail after pleading guilty Wednesday to assaulting his estranged wife.

The incident occurred in July in Warren when his wife of 39 years, who was estranged from him, stayed at his place. He offered her $20 for sex, and when she refused he took out his penis and struck her with it, according to the prosecution’s version of events to which he pleaded guilty.

“This was not his normal conduct,” Andrus told Justice Jeffrey Hjelm during the sentencing hearing in Knox County Superior Court.

Hermit didn’t grow food, hunt or use fires

Christopher Knight proves to be an unlikely survivalist, having stolen for sustenance rather than hunt, fish or forage for the last 27 years.

ROME ? Christopher T. Knight didn’t display many of the skills that a person might learn in a wilderness survival course.

He didn’t hunt, fish or forage for food outdoors, instead stealing food and other supplies from camps around North Pond.

He never started a fire because he was afraid the smoke would be seen or smelled.

Even so, Knight created a well-organized campsite, concealed his movements, and stayed warm, hydrated and even clean while apparently living alone in the central Maine woods for 27 years.

This thread is great. I love Maine.

This story left the whole state reeling. We’re all just trying to pick up the pieces and move on at this point.
