I was going to respond similarly. The only sport I can fathom someone competing in with a torn acl is maybe cycling? I dont think this story got traction because of her vagina.

I wish Dr. Sterett realized that this won’t inspire us.

I know this won’t be popular, but she should not have been allowed to race by US Coach. Next person up. Sorry, but Olympics is about Team USA not her personal desire to compete at 41. She took the slot of someone that had a chance of finishing and competing. Sports is full of replacements for injured people rising up. Do not wish her ill will and hope she recovers as i do like her, but she took away someone elses shot by pushing forward with a ruptured ACL.

Yeah, I don’t know how the olympic lineup is determined.

I agree though. In wrestling we would just scrimage for varsity if there was two people for that weight class. Then if the person who won got injured between then and the match, the JV could step in to take the spot in order to avoid a forfeit.

I’m not familiar enough with the timeline of selection and injury or what the rules are for replacement athletes under those circumstance.

I’m sure if somebody got screwed by it we’ll be hearing about it shortly.

Edit: doing quick scan, it appears she was the best qualified choice for the spot. :man_shrugging:t2:.

Dont worry guys!

Who makes the call that Lindsay’s injury should remove her from the team? Do any of us know how many runs she successfully executed while being injured?

Surely no one believes that Lindsay was the first person to snow ski the downhill injured.

Damn, I was not aware.

I don’t know. I have NO issue with her original selection, she earned it by her times. No doubt. Just after rupturing an ACL one week before the Olympics? That is not a pulled muscle or a strained hamstring.

In the US we have no one that is healthy that can beat Vonn with one leg on the most dangerous mountain on the circuit?

Doesn’t take away from her at all. My question is why was it left up to the athlete? Athlete’s typically not say ā€œYeah, take me outā€, that is not how you get to that spot! Leadership should have made the call, that is why they are there and getting paid…

Do you know what grade ACL tear that Lindsay had?

My understanding is that it was a rupture, rather than a tear.

They just said ā€œruptureā€. Have you ever known ā€œruptureā€ to be a positive? I am not a Doctor or have first hand knowledge, but isn’t a rupture a full severing of the tissue? I am going by what I know from lifting 40 years, usually a ruptured bicep is a complete tear versus a tear which has degrees. But, I am not a doctor and have no idea.

My comment was toward the US Ski Team coaching. Doesn’t the US have anyone that is better the Vonn with a ruptured ACL that did not make the team? If not, why? Sorry, she is great and I am a fan, but she blew out her knee a week ago? Maybe not, maybe she is THAT much better. Seems like a logical question.

And I don’t believe we have any business playing US Ski Team Doctor. They have all the of the results of the medical tests given Lindsay Vonn after her injury. I am not saying that the US Ski Team doctors made the right decision, just that we don’t have the medical knowledge or the details of the medical tests to be making any decision.

And do you believe everything you hear reported as without error or considerations and conditions?

This is a discussion titled ā€œLidsey Vonn to Compete in Downhill with Torn ACLā€ and you are questioning why we are discussing?
Let me ask you, you don’t think that is a legitimate question of why the USA with a Winter Olympic budget of 7B is running out a 41 year old with a ruptured (as reported) ACL? That is out of bounds?

Or, are we only allowed to discuss what you approve or tell us we should believe? It would speed things up…

Nothing is out of bounds, but if you elect to play US Ski Team Doctor, I will throw a little weight on the other side of the boat to help keep it from flipping over.

Actually, check the media. The Boat is more than flipping in the other direction, if balance is your intent…

So, in the name of balanced approach, you don’t think there should be any questions of sending her out there to race in an Olympic Medal event? Not even from placing a injured (we can agree she was injured, correct?) athlete in a potentially harmful situation? Why have Coaches or the US team? Serious, the Winter Olympic Team Budget is 7 Billion Dollars, if the athletes are calling the shots or if there is no oversight why are we spending the money?

I didn’t know about most of those withiut searching either. I thought of football guys who played with broken bones and Kurt Schilling pitching with an ankle tendon thing, and when i looked around that article popped up.

Less we forget Kurt Angle winning gold with a broke frickin’ neck!

But he couldn’t overcome the broken neck to beat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania. Crazy!
