Laser Eye Surgery

I had LASIK done back in 2001. I’d worn glasses or contacts since 1984 and was fed up with all of it. The procedure was pretty damn expensive, but it was the best money I’ve ever spent. I started with about 20/400 in each eye and now have 20/20 in one and 20/15 in the other. Post-op was a breeze. It took about 3 weeks or so for the morning haze to go away. The haze period actually got shorter each day until it just went away completely.

The only downside was that the dry eye took about 2 years to go away. I can tell that I’ll eventually need glasses to read, but my distant vision is incredible. I go outside at least once a day and freak out about how far I can see. Damn good investment. Just make sure you get an experienced doctor. Mine was kick ass—he’d done over 3,000 procedures and made me and my wife sit through two counseling sessions before I could have the surgery. Do your homework first, but I would definitely recommend it.

The extent to which a lense (glasses or contacts) decreases the size of a viewed object depends on the distance from that lense to the eye’s own lense (as well as the strength of the lense). This distance is further in glasses than in contacts. I’ve once read it is about 3% per diopter with glasses and I believe like 1/2 or 1/3 percent per diopter with contacts. So imagine, even if you get lasik the size of the image will be decreased. So if you are very nearsighted, that image would be significantly smaller than it would be in someone who never had any vision correction. That’s another reason I’d prefer an implanted lense to lasik if I were to get corrective surgery.

I was wondering if this could work with people who have detached retinas, (mine is reattached). Because i only had needles stuck in one eye my left 5! it looked so cool! But i’m not sure wether the laser treatment for my right eye (different because the retinal detachment was caught early), would affect my compatibility to such a surgery.

Hey there!
I’m from Ottawa ON, where are you?
Can I ask you how much the procedure was and where you got it done?
Do you regret it at all?
thanks
