Kornheiser on MNF

When I’m watching a local team (Eagles for me when I’m home, Jets/Giants when I’m at school), I usually just mute the game and turn on local radio. I find the announcers are much better and it cracks me up how they’re not afraid to blatantly pull for the home team.

That team they had for the 2nd Monday night game in Week 1, San Diego v Oakland, was actually much better than the main team – it was Jaworski, Vermeil, and I can’t remember the name of the third guy.

Jaworski is the best in the business when it comes to breaking down film and explaining offensive plays, defensive coverages, and the technical aspects of the game (See NFL Matchup). He is BY FAR superior to Theismann in the color commentator role.

However, ESPN knows that real football fans will watch MNF regardless of who the color commentator is, so we get stuck with lower quality football analysis in exchange for the alleged entertainment value.

This drives me crazy, but I suppose the networks see football games as opportunities to sell high-priced ad space and thus try to obtain the largest audience possible to maximize the advertising revenue.[/quote]

Exactly. I love Ron Jaworski. I loved watching Edge NFL Matchup. He has such a grasp of the technical side of the game.

Kornheiser makes me laugh, he talks about shit in the booth that no one else would. I like him on PTI, but it is true that he is out of place on MNF. I want Madden!!! they need to clone him so there can be 3 Maddens explaining the most basic football concepts with his trusty marker over and over again. “You know, you know, big players make big plays in big games…hahaha… know what I’m talkin about…hahaha…”

I can’t figure out the relationship between TK and JT. It seems adversarial, but TK wrote a short column in the Washington Post after one of the first games about how much in awe of JT he was. He went on to say that it was JT’s world and we are all just living here, JT always gets recognized, gets the best tables, etc…didn’t seem patronizing either. I’ve been reading TK in the Washington Post style and sports sections since I was a kid and I am a big fan of his writing. However, sometimes I wonder why the hell he says some of the things he does on MNF. I’ll just stick to watching Notre Dame games for now!

Is this on topic! Did you just answer the OP?!!!

Where the hell is apayne? What have you done with him!

sniff…sniff…I want my apayne back…

Granted Theisman has his faults, and isn’t the best fit for MNF, but it’s Kornheiser that doesn’t fit at all.

When he argued for a half hour every day with Wilbon he fit in, announcing MNF though, he just blows.

In my opinion…

As for Dick Vermiel, I think he’d be much better than Theisman, but I don’t think he wanted the kind of pace that goes along with MNF. He did a great job for the Chargers game though.

B.

Buck is OK except when he goes off on stupid shit, like Moss fake mooning Lambeu. “That is a absolute disgrace”

Puleeeeze.

Theisman is a fucking idiot, and never shuts his mouth.

TK is a little out of place at the moment, partly because Theisman never shuts up.

I love the interview with Spike Lee. That backfired big time. Stop interviewing celebrities in the booth. There is a fucking game going on. But, that is ESPN, “hollywood-izing” themselves whenever possible!

I have to agree with this. I was so fukin sick of hearing about Tom Cruise during the Washington game. So, Tom Cruise is in business with Snyder. Big hairy fukin deal. I’m watching a football game to watch fukin football. Not to see them interview Jamie Foxx or whatever fukin celebrity they bring into the booth.

Shut the fuk up already about celebrities, we don’t care. Get on with the game. That’s why we tuned in.

Get rid of JT because he’s a freakin’ moron. Or get someone in there that will call him a moron on the air. Kinda like good ol’ Paul Maguire use to do.

TK, like many have stated before me, is just out of his element. He doesn’t fit. I think Mike Wilbon would have been better than TK.

They’re all fucking retarded. And I’ll never get over the scoreboard being in the bottom-center of the screen.

I could care less about the announcers. I’m not sure anybody who watches or chooses not to watch MNF, or any game for that matter, because of who is or isn’t announcing is watching for the right reason.

Theisman and Kornheiser both suck. They need Myron Cope, Tunch Ilkin, and Bill Hilgrove.

Now that’s a team.

No way. You want to restore MNF to it’s Glory? Bring back Dandy Don, Frank Gifford, and someone as offensive as Cosell.

Do you have any idea how many of DOn Merideth’s phrases have entered our lexicon?

Damn I miss those guys.

They have been doing this forever. I remember this happening in the 70’s all the time.

They want MNF to be different than a regular game.

They were the best.

I think Kornheiser has been pretty bad as well. I actually liked him on PTI at times, but I agree that he doesn’t really say anything of value on MNF.

I thought Dick Vermiel was awesome as an announcer. That coach perspective adds a lot. I like when announcers can really break down what happened and expose some of the things in a play or game that we wouldn’t normally hear about.

I liked John Madden & Pat Summerall broadcasting from Lambeau Field in Green Bay… those were the most pleasing broadcasters to my ears. Its never going to get any sweeter than that.

God I hate John Madden covering Green Bay games.

“Brett Favre is just a warrior. He’s just havin’ fun out there, slingin’ and slangin’. He only throws interceptions because he’s trying to make things happen. Because he’s a warrior. Sometimes you throw interceptions when you really want to win. It’s the mark of a great quarterback. Sometimes he makes throws that no other quarterback in the league is stupid enough to try, but that’s why he’s so great. What a warrior. SLURP SLURP SLURP”
