Recent post on the Jazz Greats had me looking up some Bio’s and the essence of “Cool”. Not only did it lead me to as diverse people as Monk and Sam Giancana, but also to the “Rat Pack”, JFK and others.
Okay…this may be silly…but I want to know…does ANYBODY make plain, rectangular, NON-slanted, NON-“Cat’s Eyes” , NON- multi-colored eye-shades anymore like the purveyors of “Cool” wore? Or are we destined to have to wear things that look like clown glasses? (Okay…for you guys who think that this is an “age thing”…you’re welcome to your fuchsia “Cat’s Eye’s”…and more power to 'ya! LOL!!!)
So…are there any makers and/or styles that you guys are aware of?
Doesn’t Rayban make them types of shades still? I coulda sworn to have seen some pairs at Costco, believe it or not. Plus, you could always go searching at local second hand stores or vintage shops. And don’t forget them li’l sunglass racks at the small mart. You know, the ones for like $5.99? Sometimes, I spot a “cool” pair.
Patricia is right. Ray-Ban makes several “traditional” styles. I’ve been wearing the universally flattering Wayfarer for 20+ years (comes in black or tortoise). I have a pair of Clubmasters (same shape as the Wayfarer, but with metal nose-piece and lower lens rims) that I bought 7 years ago. I wear these daily. Of course, I’m 40 years old and can in no way be considered fashionable. To give you an example, I recently bought a pair of the old style Vans sneakers (which I’ve been wearing since 1976) from an emaciated, tatooed and pierced surly teenaged skate punk, who gave me an incredulous “check out the geezer” look. I wanted to tell him that I was skating and wearing Vans 10 years before he was born, but figured he’d just attribute it to senile old-guy rantings. Oh, well. Back to the topic - check out Ray-Bans. Reasonable selection of traditional styles.
