Kobe's 81

WF,
Now you’re just hating on Wilt. I never said that I believed everything that I read from his book was true.

Just because someone is 7’2", doesn’t mean he can’t have a 40" vert. In his book there is a picture of Wilt doing a vertical jump next to the high jump platform. Take a look, go to Barnes and Nobles and see for your self. Like I said in my other post, no one that was an aquaintance of Wilt ever disputed what “the Stilt” boasted about.

Back to Kobe “THE MAN” Bryant!

I’d heard the weight Arnold and Wilt were benching was in the 400’s, but thats still damn strong. My favorite thing about Wilt was that crazy house he had when he died. The whole thing was built for the sole purpose of banging broads. A pyramid-shaped room, a room that had a floor made of a wall-to-wall mattress, a moat running through the whole place, a couch made of the snout-hair of artic wolves, can you think of a tackier place?

Graceland?

Bill Walton said on the radio yesterday everything Wilt claimed about himself was true.

He would be a dominant player in todays game, no question.

He would have the same benefits of modern nurtition and training.

There are a lot more watered down teams today than in Wilts day.

masterblaster - I totally agree with you. Kobe is a ball hog. Impressive as it was for the nigth, in the long run it will haunt the chemistry of the team. Scoring big points is very overated and that’s why I can’t stand pro nba.

Nash is a way better player than Kobe. Nash does EVERYTHING OUT ON THE COURT. Nash could go to the Hawks right now & they would make the playoffs! That’s how good he is. If Kobe went to the Hawks, they would still be bad & Josh Smith would have to kick his ass. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nash better than Kobe? Brand better than Kobe? Bwahahahahaha!!! You obviously talking out of your ass and are out of your league for talking pro basketball. There is nothing to say to you after these claims.

should have placed that disclaimer in my post…it is unfair to compare him now, maybe down the road. I still don’t think he possesses the character and intagibles Jordan displayed though…in all fairness that may take time to develop…but it’s hard to imagine anyone on the same level as Jordan overall when you look at his physical and mental tools combined.

Agreed.

Ball hog just as much as Jordan was in his day. Jordan took just as many shot attempts as Kobe. Again, another person who doesn’t know/understand pro basketball and making uneducated comments. If you read my previous post, when Kobe scores over 40 points a game the Lakers are 8 and 5. When he scores under 40 points they are 14 and 14.

Who the hell is he going to throw the ball to that will provide consistent scoring night in and night out? That’s right, at the current time, no one.

Did anyone hear what Vice Carter said about Kobe today? He said that Because Kobe put up 81, now all the hoop youth are going to start trying to do it instaed of playing for the team. This is the same guy that tanked an entire season, and in my opinion is the biggest pussy in the league. He is also the biggest showboat, he constanly throws up dumb shots while his teammates stand around. Behind Darius Miles and Kwame Brown he is my third most hated player in the NBA. WTF was he thinking when he made that statement. I only wish that Kobe said that he is happy because they one the game and he had 81. He never said anything about the win.

Kobe is outstanding…

Don’t get me wrong - I don’t really follow the NBA and I’ve never liked the Lake-Show, but Kobe is finally stepping up and showing that he is a dominant ‘player’ in this league. He’s an absolute force.

Now here’s the difference between him and Jordan - some will argue that Jordan had the better team support - I don’t necessarily agree - Jordan became a force to be reckoned with…then he became a leader. That is when he flourished - he raised the game of those around him and the Bulls dominated the decade.

Can Kobe do the same? It’s hard to tell. He’s still a ‘kid’ in the league, and he’ll be around for a long time.

Anyone who wants to nitpik and shred on his accomplishment is a hater - as a ‘scorer/player’, he had a phenomenal game…

You may not like him as a person, but give him credit.

I’ve heard of that! What was it like & who won!!! I’m always doing searches for anything & everything that has to do with Maravich.
I don’t remember who won, but I remember Gervin regularly calling 25-30 foot bank shots, Pistol Pete throwing behind the back/over the shoulder/off the backboard alley oops to himself, just off the wall goofy stuff and they were both pulling it off. They both seemed like they were having a lot of fun, too. It was something else man.

Kirdog, if Wilt had a 40" vert, he could stick his chin over the rim from a standstill. He had closer to a 30" [which is still impressive for his size and the time].Go to the jumping vids thread and check out what I’ve written on the topic. I know jumping and Wilt wasn’twhat I’d call a leaper. There a maybe a handful of people now who can hit their heads on the rim from a run, and none of 'em can do it from a standstill.
Back to Kobe indeed.

Silverback, in the post-game interview Bryant mentioned the “W” a few times. And who the fuck is gonna take Bill “Mr.Hyperbole” Walton seriously. Every game he’s commenting on someone makes “the greatestplay of the last 20yrs, maybe ever.”

Walton is a goofball but that does not invalidate that Wilt was incredible.

WF is correct. Wilt was reported by the Sporting News to have a straight-up leap of 24 inches. It would thus make sense that his vertical was around 30 inches. Of course, this didn’t stop Wilt from winning the high jump at the 1958 Big Eight track & field champions, with a leap of 6’6".

Today’s players are not as athletically superior to the players of yesterday as many would believe. The average player is more athletic nowadays because of the college strength and conditioning programs and such. However, do you think Lebron has ever picked up a weight in his life? Genetic freaks have always existed. Wilt was one of these and easily would dominate today’s game. Definitly not to the same extent, but he would be comporable to Shaq. Are you really going to tell me that a guy like Samuel Dalembert could check Wilt?
Actually, LeBron and his high school team WERE on a weight training program that consisted of lifts like Hang Cleans, RDL’S, Squats, Overhead Squats, Bench Presses and other weights exercises. It also had band training where he had a band on his waist and his trainer applied resistance force to him when he jumped.

In the book I have there is a picture of Wilt playing volleyball. The net is 8 feet, his waist is over the net. You can’t dispute a picture.

Yes Flash, I’ve seen what you’ve written on jumping.

I’m a sprinter, I jump all the time for training, I’m sure we’re quite alike (im 5’11 and can dunk too) but we disagree on Wilt. That’s ok though.

Check out his book…seriously.

If you actually believe Wilt had a 50" vert please inhale a chlorine ammonia mixture. That is absurd. Really. He also claimed to have had sex with over 2000 women and a lot of other BS.

Wilt the stilt or whatever they called him WAS a great athlete no doubt. Alot of it is talk though. It just keep getting bigger & better as the yrs. roll on. LOL.

I’m sure the sex stuff is pretty close. He got ass all the time I imagine. Lucky bastard! :stuck_out_tongue:

Chuck Norris calls this “a slow Tuesday.”

20,000, actually. That is nearly 55 years of one woman a day. There just isn’t enough time.

Benching 400 or 500 for reps? Please.

40" or 50" vertical? Just don’t see it. He never exhibited it. And about the volleyball net picture - yes, pictures do lie. It’s called perspective. My hand is bigger than the moon too.

It’s way too difficult to compare the things Wilt did to what gets done today. Nearly different sports. A Jordan/Kobe comparison is a bit more realistic, but there are still slight differences. And Kobe is not Jordan…yet. He still has another 4 or 5 years to peak. However, you have to realize that Jordan could have had 8 or 9 rings had he not decided to take up a second sport. And when he DID get a good supporting cast, what happened? Oh yeah, 72-10. Kobe has the talent to do similar things. We’ll see how it winds up.
