Killing Fleas

Gambit, you lived in Ibaraki? Holy shit, so did I, for a little while.

Until we realized that it had some of the highest dioxin output of any of the prefectures due to the low-temperature garbage incineration they were doing. Almost all of the farmers in the area I was living in ha some of the highest cancer rates in the region, and miscarriages among the local women were at an alarming rate.

Or until you are.

Just out of curiousity. Were the cats treated with an anti-flea medication before this happened? I’m asking because that stuff usually works at killing any fleas that get on the animal and stops the cycle before it starts. I also know this year is supposed to particularly bad for flea/tick/mosquito. I want to know if I should be keeping an extra watchful eye even with my animal being treated.

Yep, yep. On the boarder of Ibaraki and Tochigi.

After they had fleas already. But yeah be careful.

Backyard has rabbits. Rabbits have fleas. Cat hunts rabbits. Now cat has fleas. Now two cats and one dog have fleas.

Attempted solutions:

  1. Bio flea spot shield thingie http://www.biospot.com/ and bug bomb for the house.
    Result: Failure

  2. Flea collars for all three
    Result: Failure

  3. Dawn dishsoap bath.
    Result: failure

Additional methods used: daily vacuuming of house and spraying of house/carpet with “flea spray”

WTF?!?

How do I kill these bastards? [/quote]

Havent read the responses so not sure if it was mentioned but you need to treat your grass and yard otherwise the animals will bring them right back into the house.

Use a pesticide on the pet, the ones where you put a few drops behind their neck once a month. Do not bath them a few days before or after or it will not take.

Get one of those sprays for the house, vaccuum, mop and just spray the house(its like a febreeze type bottle can get at any pet store).

Get a yard bug killer treatment like spectricyde(spelling?). This is the most important part.

We had a big battle with fleas about a month or two ago, the yard treatment was the tipping point.

This is the spray, can spray it everywhere and not worry. safe for pets and stuff to walk on and touch after. Plus it smells really nice. Kills the eggs.

Sentry also makes the stuff to put on the animals. That basically makes them infertile and they have a short life cycle of a few days.

Forgot the pic.

Thanks. I’ve been using a “bug spray” in the house, but I’m not sure how effective it has been. https://www.google.com/search?q=hot+shot+bedbug+and+flea&safe=off&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=KvrjUe6oK5fI4APm2YCwBQ&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1280&bih=685#imgdii=_

I saw that yard stuff. I contemplated buying it at the time but I was kinda hoping I wouldn’t have to chemical-up my yard. At this point though, I think it’s time.

Grab the spray i linked. That kind of bug spray is meant to kill the bugs. Like I said fleas will die within a week anyways, so you need to kill the eggs.

Dont worry about the yard chem wise, grab the spectricide brand Triazicide from your local homedepot or lows. Get the one that you attach to your house and just spray. I have a small garden in my backyard and I even sprayed it on there and eat from the garden the next few days(which was great because we were getting these bugs eating all my damned lettuce!). So dont worry about the whole chemical thing with it. Repeat in a month.

Dont be suprised the next day to find just a ton of dead bugs. I have a pool in my backyard and the grass surronds the deck. it was like an elephant grave yard for bettles haha

here you go. this is the stuff.

Thanks, I’ll try to swing by HomeDepot today or tomorrow.

I’m thinking about re-washing the animals with Dawn again. Anyone know a reason not to do so?

Not really. Otherwise they just become a hatchery on four legs.

Veterinarians also have a pill that they administer at the office and within seconds you can literally see them jumping off of the pet.

Hahah this happened after I treated the big dog. With the little one, she had it BAAADDD, we used flea shampoo and when she was getting blown dry they were just flying off everywhere.

I don’t know if there is a feline version of it or not but for your dogs I’ve always had great success with both Revolution and Advantage Multi. These will definitely prevent it from happening again once you get rid of them right now. Some great suggestions from other posters already on getting them out of the house now. One thing I’d add is to wear long pants and tuck the ends into your socks.

Sounds fucking stupid I know but it makes it a hell of a lot harder for them to get a meal from your ankles and continue the cycle. A number of years ago I was in the same situation and was almost at the point of ripping out all of my carpeting but this little trick really seemed to save me! Good luck!
