Kauai December 05

Spent a week in Kauai last month. We stayed at the Princeville Resort on the North side and loved it. Did the tourist thing and did the helicopter ride and the Smith family boat trip up the Wailua River. Loved the people and the place. Secret beach and Annini beach are the bomb.

~ 20 degrees F when I trained in my unheated garage this morning.

It is amazing how fast you break a sweat in the cold weather.

I went sledding with the kids last night. Can’t beat it.

Hawaii pics do look great though…

All the jobs I’ve seen were for those of Hawaiian heritage or someone who already lives there. I’ve applied for jobs, but what’s the chance of them hiring me if I live in Florida?

I’d have to move there first…and then try to find a job. But many just don’t pay enough to survive.

Hey Nate!!

Have you found that job yet? You know Hawaii has little unemployment…we have a huge shortage of many kinds of workers… And there are jobs here where you can wear a swimsuit all day!!

Maui is beautiful and some of the other islands are even more beautiful. Nice pics.

Looks nice…I bet there are lots of big bugs in Hawaii though.

The Waimea Canyon, a sort of mini version of the Grand Canyon, only beautifully tropical. Iced cold Pineapple, sweet as can be, and coconut were sold at the entrance to the lookout.[/quote]

who the hell buys coconuts in Hawaii?

We were there in October for my friend’s destination wedding. I tried to convince my wife that we needed to move there, but to no avail – unfortunately, too far from her family. C’est la vie.

So beautiful though…

i was on kauai a few years back and about two hours after sundown power went out on the whole island for about 30 minutes. i went outside to look at the stars during the power outage. i have never seen anything so beautiful since.

Actually, there are very few bugs in Hawaii and no snakes. Well, there is only one snake on the island, but it’s only six inches long and lives underground. You’d probably never see one.

However, they do have some very nasty and large centipedes. And they bite and will send you to the hospital in agony. Many of the houses are on blocks or raised up from the ground to help prevent them getting into your home.

It’s quite nice when coming from Florida (home of the largest bugs you’ve ever seen) to the Islands of Hawaii to see almost no bugs.

hahaha! tourists buy coconuts in Hawaii… i miss Hawaii!! thanks for the pics chinadoll… anyways my sis is comin for a visit from Oahu to Manila with my Biotest supps! yay!

That’s what it is here today in Colorado. Our high was 10.

Is it true that your lips freeze together when it’s that cold? (Seriously…my mainland friends refuse to answer that one seriously)

They actually can…but only if you’ve been out a long time and don’t move them at all. That was the serious answer. My “kidding” answer would be, “you wanna find out?”

Every couple of years my wife and I used to stay on Maui for a few weeks-(before the kids came along!). The islands do take your breath away.

I remember in a lot of the opening scenes of Magnum PI (who remembers that show?), there would be a shot of the sun rising over the shore with a voice-over of
Tom Selleck: “Well, it was a typical morning in paradise…”

C.D. I envy you…

Nate,

There are lots of government jobs here - ever thought of applying? The Air Force, Army, and Navy hire every kind of position I can think of. It took me 4 months to get re-hired back into civil service here… but you could apply & see what happens! I start work Monday… yipee!!! Hooray!!

Renee

Thanks for the vacation from my work day. I live in the midwest and not only is it cold, the cold has arrived earlier this year.

Magnum PI rules! I love that show.

Thanks for answering that! I would love to see snow, play in it, etc…

Never seen snow!?!? I can’t imagine. Your next vacation should be to Duluth Minnesota in January.

Snow doesn’t have a chance around her. She’s too hot…

Aww that’s sweet.

My brother and his wife moved to Kauai 2 years ago. My wife and I are trying to figure out which week off from school during the winter we can fly over there!
