JIF Okay As a Peanut Butter Source?

I have the same thing happen Digity, no matter how much you mix, it will harden at the bottom.

NN- you probably won’t suffer illness from rancid oil in PB (as I’ve left it out before), but it will nonetheless spoil and not be good. Hence, the recommendation for refrigeration

the only reason I use it, is because I hate how natural PB gets hard in the fridge when you get below 1/2 a jar. It just ends up tearing my bread

When you buy natty PB…MAKE SURE THERE’S NO OIL ON TOP WHEN YOU PURHASE IT!!!

If there is that means the oil has started to separate and by the time you get to the bottom of the jar the shit is going to be hard as a rock. If you buy the stuff and there’s no oil on top that means it’s evenly distributed and the issue of hard PB should not be a problem.

What the hell? This is a joke right. God forbid you STIR the oil back in.

OF COURSE YOU MIX IT!!! I don’t mean to suggest I don’t mix the stuff when there’s oil on top…what I’m saying is that EVEN IF you mix it back in it’ll still be hard when you get to the bottom. I suspect because when you remix it most of the oil is still in the top half of the jar. It’s hard to remix the stuff and have the oil equally distributed. That’s the only conclusion I can come to. However, I notice that when there’s NO OIL SEPARATION and I buy the PB and mix it then I never have a problem when I get to the bottom of the jar.[/quote]

Huh, next time I go to guy a jar I’ll look for one with no separation.

This is the most in-depth discussion I’ve ever had about peanut butter. Then again I’ve never gotten high.

After thinking about this for a while, along with reading other people’s experiences, I’ve come to the conclusion that peanut butter simply likes me better than all of you.

It takes about a year for peanut butter to go rancid. I am not sure if it is quicker for natural peanut butter but mine never lasts long enough to worry about it.

PB that has it’s oil evenly distributed will stay smooth in the fridge. Even if you buy PB with no oil on top you still need to mix it well when you open it.

I’ve tried a lot of natural PBs, but Skippy Natural has the best taste/texture by far.

LMFAO @ Digity’s avatar!

That’s because it’s not real natural PB.

And if any of you guys can’t get real natural peanut butter to have an even texture from top to bottom, you’re doing a crappy job of mixing it.

Excuse my ignorance, but what makes it not natural?

Ingredients: Roasted Peanuts, Sugar, Palm Oil, Salt

I’m not saying you’re wrong, but if I’m missing something fill me in.

Have you actually ever had a jar go rancid?

The ingredients of natural peanut butter should read:

peanuts, and maybe salt

That’s it.

technically though, palm oil is natural

I’ve always kept it in the fridge.

Peanuts don’t “naturally” contain palm oil. So the addition of it makes it “unnatural”. Pardon me if you were being sarcastic, but It came across as serious.

I wasn’t being sarcastic, in fact serious.

By your logic, the addition of salt would make it “unnatural”, follow me?

Palm oil is natural, where as trans-fats are not, hence why other brands are not natural.

Skippy Natural is natural PB, but like said, I do think the kind with oil separation is better.

Who knew peanut butter could be so complicated.

Have some “natural” 7-UP with your “natural” PB.

I only buy PB with one ingredient in it…peanuts. That’s what I call natural.
