Seems to be a form of “celebrity”. With social media, the potential for most of America to know who you are is there. The more followers you have, the more “popular” you are.

Yesterday, Dr.Pangloss posted a list of attention whores he follows on IG.
Hannah_Christel (lovely face, btw) appears to have some deal with another supplement company; people can type in her name and get a discount at checkout. Several others have personal training/nutrition services they offer. So there’s a financial motive. They may even have modeling aspirations. I can actually see that Hannah as another Jamie Eason.
