Is It OK To Be White? I'm Not Sure

Ditto. And it’s a job not many people could/can stick with for very long. But it’s a good feeling at the end of the day to know you worked hard. Considering getting back into it until college next year.

I’m not arguing that I “deserve” to be treated like a suspect or criminal. I’m saying that for the exact same situation, an honest, peaceful person of color is far more likely to not enjoy the same benefit as I am.

That’s a good, informative post.

However, like I ask many people, do you think there’s a way to ameliorate such unfairness, besides words (eg, informing people of white privilege and then hoping they understand)?

You honkey’s are the bane of all existence. All white men should do the world a favor and kill themselves.

“Its Ok to be White” is just a troll response to provoke people who cant stand whitey right now.

They are multiplying.

Sure, if you want to convert to Judaism; it’s a religion. A Jew-by-choice is no less Jewish than someone who happened to have a Jewish mother.

As an aside, “Chosen People” is not a compliment.

G-d “chose” the scattered tribe of Israelites, not because we were some great people. He specifically picked the least of the peoples of the world, stiff necked, and of no particular worth, as a demonstration of his love and power.

If he could chose us crappy people to love, he could certainly love all people.

Read the Torah. We’re a bunch of misfits.

Well, there isn’t a “Jewish race”. The Torah specifically describes a “mixed multitude” coming from Egypt, which was a trade capital of the time, the crossroads of the world. Heck, Moshe’s wife was Ethiopian. King David had a red beard and blue eyes.

Sure, there are some common Semitic attributes for most Jews, especially European Jews, but I am Israeli. There are black, blond-blue-eyed-fair skin (most of my daughters), swarthy types (me), and even Asian Jewish Israelis.

As a further supplement to my post, I attach a photo of a terrorist, I first saw on this website.

The ginger “white” girl in the picture is a Palestinian terrorist. The people in uniform are various Israelis, in varying shades of white. And, of course, there are truly white Israelis, like Gal Gadot, for example.

“Race” is a pretty stupid concept in the Middle East.

“Tribe” is used as a joke, but it is, by far, a more accurate description of what is going on here. We have tribes that span multiple “races”, ethnicities, and the like.

I’m proud to be Asian, said the Oriental man.

Profiling saves lots of time and effort. “Profiling” works for everything, including race. But because the race issue is such a hot mess, “profiling” used for race is “bad”.

@Jewbacca I just want to say, as a guy that was forced to study theology and religions for 8 years, I am genuinely a fan of whenever you share your education on the subject. And it also helps me realize just how out of my depth I am.

Thank you. I am not so sure I have an education on the subject, although I did grudgingly attend yehshiva. It’s more of an experience of just being Israeli.

As a teenager, I used to work as a tour guide in Israel, generally for American groups. I learned to share embarrassing concepts (like G-d think we sucked; ergo, He chose us) that other Jewish people don’t like to talk about.

I also learned that many, many, people love G-d and seek Him in their way, so why not offer whatever help I might have?

You were stopped, given field sobriety tests that you failed, given a preliminary breath test on which you blew more than triple the legal limit, and then released?

Why would the Officer go through all of that just to let you go? Did he just want to lose his job, or be sued by someone you injured?

If he didn’t want to arrest you, why would he go through steps that nearly mandate an arrest? Why would he do extra investigatory work just to let you go?

When i say white, I mean of European descent. Spain, England, France, Switzerland… ect.

Anyone can be “white” Japanese people are white by that notion then.

This is where things get complicated.

You stated that God chose the “scattered tribes of Israel” Which would mean, that they are NOT of European descent. So although some members of your “tribe” may indeed have “white” skin, it doesn’t mean they are “white” of European descent.

You have a section of society that take: it’s okay to be white and infer: it’s not okay to not be white.

You also have a section that conflate its okay to be white with actively trying to grow that privilege to the suffering of others.

Many of these people are in the university world, so this explodes when your world is black and white.

You forgot to mention the the same person who posted the flyers also wrote “Fuck Islam” on several walls using a black marker… So says the article.

If you want to make that argument, you will need to everything but color equal.

Well, OK, so “white” means recently European to you. That Palestinian ginger almost looks Irish to me; I think it’s been shown here repeatedly that “race” is a pretty meaningless debate in/near Mesopotamia. But we’ll go with “white” meaning “recently European”.

With that definition, yes, you are correct, genetic studies have shown there is definitely a common male ancestor among most Arabs and Jewish people, circa 4,000 years ago. If one is religious, you’d call him “Abraham”. If you want to call that a “race”, then sure.

I’d opt for the traditional “Tribe”, in that we can be any color and any one willing can join.

In fact, I am happy to sharpen up my flint knife and have you join the Tribe.

Let’s do it old school.

I was pulled aside while travelling for military service with my police credentials in my pocket by two airport security officials wearing turbans in Canada.

The only two jobs I was turned down for I was interviewed by a black person.

Is this racism, or did I just make a mental note of the race of the person who I had a negative interaction with? Could I not blame it on the difference in race? I don’t think it was, but I’m sure if I wasn’t white I and the people I mentioned earlier were I would surely have a case.

Well, since I did say “Confederate generals” I’d say I was already being as careful as you required.
