I sometimes feel overwhelmed with guilt. My students often become fairly important people. One of the kids has an honet-to-God billionaire for a parent. These are people who help run the world…and I’m educating them.
I even have my own son at Navy. Someday, he’ll protect them. He is also utterly brilliant and very near top of his class. That makes me feel guilty too.
Rationalizing, I suppose that I could be/have been a good influence on these kids. Perhaps they can bring more freedom to the world, as they will be ‘insiders’. This idea comforts me somewhat.
