Absolutely, and I do not for a second blame anybody for that. It’s a very natural consequence of having to deal with criminals on the daily and watch your back.
It is very easy to get guns on the black market, due in no small part to a “cash only” transaction process. I can tell you one thing–these guys with criminal records aren’t getting them from stores. The new recruits, before they have a record, maybe. They can purchase and then resell to others. It’s one of the downsides of “innocent until proven guilty”, but one that’s worth having all things considered.
Yeah, it’s really unfortunate but it makes sense…if you don’t have any good models of what it looks like (because the state sucks at regulations) then all you have to look at are the scumbags
A little off topic, but I saw this hunting video where people where hand gun hunting. Dude had a .44 Magnum. He stopped a running deer dead in it’s tracks and knocked it off it’s feet. It was hilarious…and one hell of a shot at a moving target.
Usually you shoot the deer and then have to track it. Not that deer. It was right where he shot it. I’d never seen a deer fly before that…
I’d recon a 44 mag would do pretty good against that boar…
My wife and I took a guided hike on our honeymoon in Kauai. Our tour guide was a regular Crocodile Dundee, and boy did he have some stories. He also casually mentioned hunting wild boar with a knife.
Never done it with a knife, but I did go with a Spear once. Undoubtedly the biggest adrenaline rush I have ever gotten from hunting, also the only time I have legitimately thought an animal was going to kick my A*^. highly recommended
Lol, we had a similar experience in Kauai. Our Samoan tour guide was telling stories about how his family (wife and like 8 kids) would light a bonfire on the beach and spearfish at night. He told us a hammerhead chomped down on his arm so he gets out and cleans it up. A few minutes later his oldest daughter (a teenager) brings the shark to shore on a spear for him…
Lol. Those island folks just live a different life, man. He was an incredibly nice guy and knew that forest we were hiking through as well as you’d expect from someone that had lived his life on the island. The casual stories he mentioned, like seeing sharks up close while surfing and hunting wild boar with knives…maybe he was really good at playing a part for tips (possible?) but he seemed quite genuine and casual about it all.
ARs make great coyote/woodchuck guns. You can kill whitetail with them and I have friends that do, but 5.56/.223 is a little on the small side if your shot doesn’t end up where you wanted it. Most of the guys I know who use them for deer run either an AR10(.308) or and Ak47(7.62 x 39).
Here is a cool video of a guy covered up in hogs. Seems like fun. (Don’t watch if you are in PETA)
After seeing the hog video, it really shows how massively underpowered the 223 cartridge is. They weren’t huge pigs, it still took lots of shots, at close range to do the job.
A 308 would definitely be more humane.
With a bolt action your approach is definitely one shot one kill, especially with a 223. I have killed similar sized pigs with a single well placed 223, to the brain, or the heart/ lung region.
