Iron Man Movie

I want Terrence Howard for Tony Stark himself. I don’t care if he’s black, he can act. He also doesn’t look like a goon with with a mustache, and has a good build.

If they cast him as WarMachine, they will have a hard time finding a white guy to play Iron Man.

The sidekick can’t be a better than the lead.
I agree with that. He could pull it off well. I hate when actors get cast more based on a stereotype than whether they can actually act the part out better. I think they fucked up the Davinci Code because of this. It would have been more interesting had they not stuck with such a “flat” actor for that part.

Parts in movies that surprised me for being acted out well were:
Micheal Clark Duncan - King Pin
Cillian Murphy - the Scarecrow in Batman Begins
Christian Bale - Batman

None of those actors would pop into your mind as great for that part BEFORE they actually did it.

I hoped for Bale for Batman back in pre-casting days. Equilibrium made me realize he could be batman, American Psycho made me realize he could be Bruce Wayne.

For those who care, The Ultimate Avengers Movie (animated, sequel) just came out on Tuesday. Both of them are worth watching if you are a fan of these characters.

Yep. Lots of actors have suprised me in comic book movies. Cillian Murphy by far the most. And Duncan was kickass as Kingpin.

Most comic book movies are ruined either by terribly over-acting (making them campy and cheesy), or a plain lack of an actual plot.

I haven’t “Netflixed” it yet, but I did see the first 10 mins on youtube (where did I put that link…). So far, I liked the Black Pather stuff (though it differs from the comic orign, no?).

The animated movie was just released by Marvel Yesterday for anyone who is interested.

Unrelated, but I think I should play Deathlok. I’m not black, but fuck it. If they made the Kingpin black, they can make Deathlok white.

Speaking of black superheroes, I wonder if there will be a War Machine spin-off if the Iron Man movie is a success. Sadly, I don’t think Iron Man will be a big hit. It’ll probably be more akin to Daredevil, one of the Marvel movies they try out while filming the next Spider-Man or X-Men.

Dammit, Daredevil had the potential to be great. Fuckin’ Affleck.

You act like Kingpin was just changed for the hell of it. Who the hell else in Hollywood could actually weigh a REAL 350lbs AND look muscular while being able to act? Kingpin’s character was probably the best in that whole movie.
??? your joking right? in the comics, kingpin was NOT overly muscular, he had a
sumo wrestlers physique. in clothes he appeared to be just a huge fat bastard.

Got to read that whole thread and haven’t seen the a mention of Robert Downey Jr. Don’t tell me you guys don’t know he is to play Stark in the upcoming movie?

Anyway, I think he’ll do great. He has both a physical ressemblance and the alcoholism problem of Stark.

But right now, I’m just too fired up for the Ghost Rider movie coming out soon.

TO quote Lex Luthor “WRONG!!!”

Anyway Frank Millar in his run when the Kingpin went from a Spidey villian to Daredevil’s foe, they had a scene where he’s on a multi machine and they mention his muscle. Also in a Captain America issue (Act’s of Vengeance/Street’s of Poison), he fight’s the Red Skull and again they mention his muscle to fat ratio.

Finally in Brubaker’s run on Daredevil, Daredevil kicks the kingpin and almost breaks his foot, and in his interior monolouge he says “people make the mistake that Fisk is fat, he’s not”. I liken Fisk to a powerlifter he’s huge and he’s got fat however he’s got more muscle.

Also people watch the unrated Daredevil DVD SOOOO much better.

I bought the Iron Man DVD, it was cool the animation was great, the story was so so, I liked the take on the mandarin but not the execution.

I wish they’d hold off on Spidey III and just go ahead and me a secret wars movie, THEN do the spinoffs! Yeah!

according to www.imdb.com tony stark will be played by Robert Downey Jr. (shudder) at least he’ll have the alcoholic part down to a T.

…I was about to make the same point. If they adapt the “Demon in a Bottle” storyline for one of the sequels, there’s actually potential for a damn good movie.

In any case, that poster has inspired me to make my own custom Iron Man action figure.

The recipe:

 • Torso, forearms/hands, knees/shins/feet: Marvel Legends House of M Iron Man

 • Biceps, thighs: X-Men Classics modern Avalanche

 • Head: ML Modern Armor Iron Man (which looked anorexic, btw)

I’m even doing a metallic paint job…more on this one as it develops.

Damn. He even gave references. I guess all I can do is write, “what he said”.

Last I read Robert Downey Jr. was up for the part. No shit. Before that they were looking at Rob Lowe.
Maybe, they figured Downey had plenty of experience with substance abuse and would relate to the alcoholic Stark.

I think I got props from the Prof, my life is complete.

It’s kind of amazing (and totally non-amazing) to me that people keep saying that Robert Downey Jr. will be a great Tony Stark because of his experiences with drug/alcohol abuse.

Was Christian Bale a great Batman becasue of his experiences with vigilantism and making criminals, who are a cowardly and superstitious lot, fear him.

The guy’s gonna be a great Iron Man because he’s a great actor.

Terence Howard I’ve never really gotten into; would have preferred Don Cheadle or Mos Def.

It is how he prepared for the role and why the crime rate is down.

You need to watch Crash. Howard is a great actor. He does a very good job of acting “real” instead of “acting like he’s acting real”. If anything, between both Downy Jr and him, this movie should at least have decent acting under control. The rest lies in the hands of the writers and the special effects department.

Watched Crash. Hated it. Thought it was two hours of utterly unbelievable coincidences and flimsy characters yelling, “You’re racist! No, you’re racist!” at one another.

Howard is a good actor…I’m just not a fan.

Sounds like you took your critique straight out of Men on Film-“Hated it”.

I, on the other hand, don’t care for Robert Downey Jr. I haven’t liked him in anything since Weird Science.
