As I have mentioned in previous posts my wife has recently been diagnosed with several diseases: Hoshimoto’s, Hypothyroid, and Diabetes. She is seeing an endocrinologist specializing in thyroid disorders. He seems good but the dietitian he referred did not know shit, even got out the food pyramid and tried to limit her to 1200 calories a day.
I am trying to help with food types, combinations, and an exercise program, hence the basis of my questions.
Her current glucose test results and prescriptions are:
Glucose: Fasted 88, 2hr 202, 4hr 408
TSH 20.4
T3 – normal
Antibody number 2000 - Hoshimoto’s number
Synthyroid 150mcg daily
Synthyroid script may be on the increase depending on next thyroid tests
She is 5’4” 195 lbs and 35% BF.
Goals: lose body fat and gain energy, the poor girl can’t make it through the day with a nap.
Assumptions: Please correct if wrong!
6 small meals per day
food combo’s protein and fat, protein and carbs, NO fat and carbs
all carbs should be low glycemic or acceptable from GRI
Supplements: Not currently in program (Dr. wants absolute T numbers and blood counts), I would think multi vitamin and ALA? What about a thermogenic? Of the supplements you recommend, why?
3 days of weight training, 20 min of in zone cardio on weight days and 30 min other 3 days. 1 day off.
Questions: What should be her micro nutrient make up? Why?
Why does weight and cardio training increase insulin sensitivity? Is it short term and will this positively effect her next glucose test.
Any other thoughts regarding increasing insulin sensitivity, metabolism or thyroid function would be much appreciated. Any additional resources or articles for us to refer to would also be very helpful.
Thank you in advance for your help.
PS: Your massive eating program and a Andosol/Nandosol stack help me to put on 15lbs of lean muscle mass, thank you!
