Imports

First the red line chevelle is a little extreme, but The engine and trans. and rear end they put in would not be needed to run 1.00, the simple springs, arms, four link would have the same effect and wouldnt cost more than 1,500 if that. Second like I said no STOCK MR2 pulls a 1.03 several companys like chevy ford and toyota have parts that they make for their cars like you mentioned TRD susp. could be ordered and installed at the dealer, which is not stock it didnt leave the factory with that susp. if a ford dealer installs a supercharger at the dealer does that make it stock like what ROUSH does no! even though toyota makes that susp. speacil for that car, if it came from the factory that way it would be stock. Third I see that many imports run just as fast as Muscle cars. he new highly anticipated 2002 Civic Si ran a 16.2 et. i took my friends 2001 ex-cab silverado at the track and ran faster than that. and while im got trucks on my mind and someone mentioned 4wd remeber 11yrs ago when GMC has a 20,000 turbo 4wd Syclone and it spanked the 88,000 NSX. See america does everything better turbos, 4wd, and so on.

Demo, good one bro…good one. LOL! Colin, you are right. Mustangs are damn quick. And every time I’ve been to the track, I’ve seen many of them running low quarter miles. Those cars are much cheaper to tune than an import, and they can be made to run very fast. I’m just not an American-car lover. I like the styling, handling and price of imports. And it looks like me getting the Toyota Celica All Trac isn’t going to happen. I’ve had some problems come up lately that are preventing me from working out the deal. Oh well, I think I’ll just get something to hold me over until I can import the EVO VIII or something else of comparable power, styling, handling and downright fun! And for those of you talking about imports like the civic Si…that is not a true import racer. Like I said, we don’t get the true import racers here. And the ones we do get are very much detuned. And Honda isn’t known for import racing. That’s what Subaru, Nissan and Mitsubishi are better known for. As for those specs on the EVO VII, I don’t think that is for the Japanese version. Because the Japanese versions I’ve seen are 300+ hp. So they run better than a 5.1 second 0-60 and 13.5 quarter mile. That actually sounds more like the version we will get next year. But I could be wrong.

Hey ND, you say the Nissan Skyline has the
most sophisticated AWD system out there…
could you elaborate? How does it compare
to the Subaru or Haldex systems? Me, I’m
saving my pennies for a WRX (not the STi) wagon - plenty fast for me, and practical to boot.

Nate, now you are my kind of dude. Here in Australia you could buy a R32 GTR for $35 grand. Thats about $18 thousand US dollars. Sorry to be a prick, i just had to tell you that. I dont have one, YET.
Slm, the GTR’s four wheel drive system is unlike any other car. Baisically the GTR is mostly rear wheel drive. But whenever there is the slightest wheelspin on the rear wheels the front wheels kick in and pull the car out of any corner. Another good example, look at a drag race with a GTR, the takeoffs are extremely fast. Its like a bullet. On the other hand look at the Supra, it sits at the traffic lights spinning its wheels for an hour before it decides to move.
Evo’s and WRX’s are 4 wheel drive all the time, the power is even to all 4 wheels (although EVO’s are slightly more rear wheels i think). Coming into a corner with a GTR is like going into it with a normal RWD car, with minimal understeer(unlike a WRX). Because of this you would go into the corner at a faster speed. Coming out of the corner you get almost the same amount of drive as a WRX but with a touch of oversteer. Think 911 turbo, but more advanced, the Skylines 4WD system is a masterpiece.

Thanks for the info Slaine!

Bro, how about we hook something up so I can have the Skyline imported over here? I’d buy one for $18K in a heartbeat! That’s a bad-ass car. I could get one here, but it would cost $89K to have it imported and have it pass all the tests. Of course, it would be awkward driving a right-hand vehicle (have you seen Fast and the Furious? The yellow car is a Skyline, notice the right-hand drive). I like the WRX and the WRX Sti. I am actually looking into purchasing a WRX at this time. I just have to check to see if I can get my payments just right.

Nate, i feel for ya man. Sure i could buy one for you and send it over but you transfer the money first:) . I saw the fast and the furious, i was hoping they would race that R33, you know, show the rookies what the drag king can do.
Good luck with you Rex, are you getting the older version or the newer one? I think the new one has more lag plus it dont look as good in my opinion. I’ve seen some pretty mean WRX’s, they are great cars.

I hear you bro! I wanted to see the Skyline kicking some ass. Oh well, they probably didn’t want to hurt it since it was being borrowed from the Skyline importer stationed in California. Word on the street is that a newer Skyline R34 or 35 is going to be in Fast and the Furious 2. So maybe they’ll race it. As for me, I made a deal on a blue WRX, and as long as everything goes right, I’ll be picking it up Sat morning. I’ll have to get some pics and put it on my web site to replace the pics of my Type R. Time to rally! And now I can blow those mustangs away that think they are so bad ass!

anyone a fan of a 87 buick grand national? I’m looking for one as soon as I can get rid of my 95 firebird.
