Shit, so Australia beat SA today by 83 runs. Dammit!

de Villiers run out was unfortunate and Smith was just unlucky to cramp up so bad… I still feel if Smith would have stayed on, SA would have won the game.

Im putting my money on a SA Aus final… although Sri Lanka could sneak in there as well.
Sri Lanka are playing Aus and SA in the super 8 so that should be a good indicator of whether they can win the cup. Overall Sri Lanka have the toughest draw (Aus, SA, West indies and NZ) in the super 8 so if they make it to the finals they will have been tested. All and all it has been an entertaining World cup.

Well the Super 8’s have begun and the matches did not disappoint!

AUSTRALIA vs WEST INDIES

The Aussies batted first and lost opener Gilchrist early to Powell, Powell has been extremely impressive for West Indies, picking up early wickets in every single game he has played so far. Hayden started off really slow and played second fiddle to skipper Ponting, who looked as if he was in the form of his life, until he got run out for 35(36) by a magnificent throw from Sarwan.

In came Clarke who has impressed me throughout this tournament with his batting, he scored a quick fire 41(47) until he succumbed to a good delivery from Bravo (lbw). Symonds and Hussey fell cheaply and it seemed as if the Windies had pulled things back… but Hayden had other plans, the big man went absolutely berserk… I have never seen such powerful hitting in my life, he smashed 6’s all round the park with sheer brute force and blasted his way to 158(143) with four 6?s and 14 boundaries!!, until he held out to Samuels on the bowling of Bravo again.

Shane Watson chipped in with a handy cameo 33(26) and the Aussies finished up with 322/6.
A mammoth total yet again, but I just felt the Windies could get this with their strong batting line up.

The match was rained off and continued the next day and the Aussies started off really well, dismissing both the openers cheaply, however I really though Chanderpaul got a bad decision, that ball was clearly missing off stump… unlucky!.

Skipper Lara, looked really good and played a classy knock of 77(83) hitting 8 fours and a six, but he got himself out, playing a stupid shot and although keeper Ramdin gave him good company 52(43)… the tail didn?t wag and the Aussies cleaned the West Indies up for 219 in 45.3 overs. The total was just too big and the Aussies were just too good.

Another professional performance by Australia and they are steadily making their way up the group to yet another final.

SOUTH AFRICA vs SRI LANKA

This had all the makings of an exciting match, the mighty South Africans against the Lankan lions and both teams made sure it was.

Sri Lanka batted first and had a top order collapse, great bowling by South Africa at the start, although Pollock was a bit expensive. Almost all the Sri Lankan batsmen got starts and then got out to horrible shots, apart from Silva who was brilliant run out by Gibbs (lol what a run out!).

Sri Lanka looked as if they would be bowled out cheaply at 98/5 but then in came Russel Arnold and Tillekaratne Dilshan, the two dependable lower order batsmen played superbly had shared a 97 run partnership which got Sri Lanka out of hot water. I really think Smith should have been a bit more aggressive and changed the bowling, both the batsmen were excellent players of spin and he should have taken Peterson out of the attack sooner.

Dilshan was the first to go 58(76) caught by Kemp of the bowling of Ntini and shortly after Arnold was caught behind for 50(73) of Langeveldt. Charl Langeveldt then had a dream of a bowling spell picking up 4 wickets in his over destroying the Sri Lankan lower order and cleaning them up for 209, a good 15-20 runs short of what they should have achieved.
Sri Lanka was cleaned up for a respectable 209 (considering they were 98/5), this was an awkward total to chase, considering the Proteas had to contend with Vaas and Murli.

The South Africans, started off badly losing de Villiers very early for a duck, but skipper Smith 59(65) was looking good along with Kallis 86(110), until they both got out, Smith to a beauty from Murli and Kallis to Malinga.

Murli then triggered a mini collapse taking Gibbs 31(51) and Boucher 0(2) in rapid succession but the Proteas were still looking fine at 206/5 until Lasith Malinga, the fiery slingly fast bowler came on for his final spell… he took 4 wickets in 4 balls and almost got a fifer in the same over.

This turned the whole match on its head, the mighty South Africans were now suddenly 207/9!!! with 3 runs to win and Sri Lanka on top…
Langeveldt batted superbly, when he blocked out one whole over from Vaas and the Peterson finally edged a ball to third man for 4 of Malinga, leading the South Africans to victory. The last over of that match was nail biting, I was at the edge of my seat!!, Jayawardene should have had a second slip, what a costly mistake and now the Sri Lankans must be ruing the fact that they didn?t get those 10-15 extra runs, it cost them the match.

South Africa now get their 2 points and the Super 8 table is evenly poised with Australia leading and Sri Lanka, now in second place.

That’s some culture they’ve got over there. Anyone want to debate the Civilized World vs. the Uncivilized World?

Yeah, didn’t think so.

People in Pakistan burn an effigy of Inzamam-ul-Haq in protest of the team’s three-wicket defeat to Ireland, Lahore, March 18, 2007

You must understand, that cricket is the main sport in Pakistan, they dont have a plethora of sportsmen participating and bringing back medals in the Olympics etc. It is a cricket crazy nation, just like India and the Pakistan team are one of the best teams in the world, they even won the world cup in 1992.

So the disappointment the Pakistani people felt after their team’s shock defeat to Ireland and them being knocked of the the tournament in the first round itself is understandable.

Different people have different ways of venting their frustration, in regards to the civilised and uncivilised world, you should take a look at English football hooliganism, that has resulted in riots and chaos in not only England but other countries aswell… and the English supposedly, were to have civilised the whole world… lol

The Aussies rolled West Indies by 103 runs after play resumed today after being washed out yesterday. They are starting to look like the “normal” Aussie team again i.e. winning convincingly. God help any bowler coming up against Matthew Hayden in this tournament, this guy is on FIRE!!! 158 runs, second century in a row, just amazing.
Hayden is a fucking beast… that man can not be stopped once he gets going!, It is such a boon to have an explosive batsman at the top of the order to get the team off to a flying start, not only that… but he has the ability to play long knocks and stay till the end, which is what similar players like Afridi and Sehwag etc dont have.

Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga became the first bowler to take four wickets in four balls in international cricket but it was all in vain as South Africa won.

WOOHOO!

Who’s next?
Hahah… that was a good match, a really good match, its been a long time since I have witnessed a good nail biting finish.

But South Africa, didnt impress me here… this win was a bit streaky, I have a feeling if they encounter Sri Lanka again, things could be different.

Yea, they terrorized the black caps while they were in New Zealand recently, and have only just lost to South Africa yesterday, How they perform against Australia will be crucial but nonetheless they are looking really good at the moment.

My semi finalists, going on current form would be Aus, SA, Sri Lanka and the Kiwis.

Malinga’s 4 in 4

Its better quality on youtube.

A fat lot of good it did his team.
We already know who’s taking the cup home: hint, they ain’t gonna run, they gonna hop!

Son, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings.

Australia convincingly beat England yesterday in the Super 8’s, showing that their recent loss in the Tri-Series tournament in Australia is all but behind them.

Stranger things have happened, but it looks like only Sri Lanka and New Zealand have the form at the moment to beat the Aussies.

Unless the Kiwi’s transform into atomic supermen and thrash the Aussies, the finals are looking like NZ v SLA & SA v AUS.
Personally I think that SLA will beat NZ. I just don’t think the NZ batting is skilful or disciplined enough to deal with Murali and the wacky swing stylings of “slinger Malinga”. I hope I am wrong though because NZ has the best chance of beating us in the finals, thus making the final more interesting.

As for the SA v AUS game, I expect that the SA bowlers will get slapped around the grounds by the awesome Aussie batting line-up. Both Kallis and Smith are in good form with the bat but I can?t see them getting the team over the line.
No matter what happens I?ll be cancelling my morning shifts next week so I can stay up late and celebrate (hopefully).

I just hope its not a Sri Lanka v Australia final. If we loose wickets to malinga and murali i will be so pissed off.

They are both so obviously throwing the ball its not even funny.

I think that any confidence the Kiwis got from beating Australia in NZ recently has just evaporated this morning after the Aussies crushed them.

Matt Hayden is in awesome form, 3 centuries in the tournament so far and I think he is only 93 behind the record for the most runs scored by a batsman in the World Cup.

The Kiwis were missing two key players, Shane Bond and Jacob Oram, and in a side that lacks depth of talent this will always be devastating. Maybe with the aid of Caribbean voodoo they will heal Oram and Bond, ?cause they sure as shit are going to need them.

Ireland beat England in CRICKET!

Fupping ell’ who would have thought!

Didnt think us Paddys even played the game!

Feels great all the same lol

My brother-in-law is on Team Canada and I’m hoping they win at least 1 match before they get sent home.
