The trailer is pretty crap. Just when it seems they’re building up some suspense towards the end…it’s over!
And we don’t know anything more than before, except that Will Smith is in the film, and that during evacuation people were kind enough to park their cars away from the centre of the streets so Will could drive his GT without problems. New Yorkers are well known for their civility on the roads, so I wasn’t surprised.

The real question is whether he can fill Vincent Price’s shoes. 1964’s ‘The Last Man on Earth’ is the definitive adaptation of ‘I am Legend’. The screenplay was more faithful to the source material and Price delivered his usual superb performance.
‘The Omega Man’ was just another haphazard attempt by Hollywood to cash in on the sci-fi movie boom that occurred in the wake of ‘Planet of the Apes’.

I Agree with this comment on Price in “The Last Man on Earth.” One of Prices finer moments. As lame as Price could get ( mostly due to just taking anything they threw at him ) Smith can not act as well as Price.
“Omega Man” survives in my catalogue purely on it’s 70’s cheddarness. A classic crap science-horror-shitterpiece from the Golden Age of shitterpieces.
Despite my feelings that Smith is the black Tom Hanks ( ie; can only play one character which is really bad, since he has had many, many roles ), I am looking forward to this one.
“I Am Legend” is a really good story, and if they keep true to the original work the quality of the source material should overcompensate for most other weaknesses.

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess you are a young pup.
I enjoyed the hell out of ‘28 Days Later’. It was a very good popcorn movie. But it was hardly the greatest anything.
‘Frankenstein’ was a great horror movie
‘Psycho’ was a great horror movie
‘Night of Living Dead’ was a great horror movie
‘The Shining’ was a great horror movie
‘Jaws’ was a great horror movie

And the Dawn of the Dead remake far surpassed for ‘oh shit!’ moments, which imo you need to have for it to be called horror.
I read the Protosevich screenplay a while back and it was a hell of a fun read that would’ve translated into a better movie. It captured many of the best elements of Matheson’s original novel/novella, while also incorporating all the was great about The Omega Man. Plus, it added onto the story and made it more, I dont know, frentic I guess.
It was still vampires and he still managed to end it with the “I am legend” quote with the same impact as the original story.

I’m going to have to agree. Anyone who would make that comment must have been born after 1990.
Aliens?
When you start talking about “best evers”, you just can’t skip decades worth of movies and start with shit made after 2000.

Hmmm, good list but I wouldn’t call 28 Days Later a popcorn movie, personally. I found it to be very dark and very gritty in direction and tone. It’s also fairly thought provoking for a horror movie.

Because it is made recently does not invalidate it as a “best ever”, although I wouldn’t put 28 Days later in the “best ever” category either.
Aliens is a fucking cracker, as is Alien. Both of them really give me the willies. Such atmosphere.

Is cracker a good thing? Given the context I assume so, but I just want to check.
For my money, I would say that “Bride of Frankenstein” was better than the first (maybe the greatest sequel ever).
All that being said, I am really looking forward to this flick, but I’ll try my best to forget the book. I just don’t think that the movie that they made will have the same impact. Hopefully it’ll help, god knows that I wish I could have forgotten about reading “I, Robot” before I saw the movie.

To that movie’s credit, they did say at the end “Suggested by Isaac Asimov’s Book ‘I,Robot’” and not “Based on”. I think it caught hell for using the exact same title and not making that clear. The movie didn’t really suck, it just wasn’t based directly on the book.

yeah, I know, but that didn’t make it easier. I actually kind of liked the movie but it still kind of nagged at me while I watched it.
I also saw the point in changing the plot, as much as I like to book, a direct adaptation probably would have bored me a bit.
I do think Legend would make a better straight adaptation if they go that route.
The Shining is a very good film alright apart from that helicopter shadow dont know how Kubrick let that in
Psycho excellent more of a thriller with as it did not scare the bejaysus out of me
Alien excellent Jaws in space i like to call it
Aliens popcorn action movie
28 Weeks Later appalling appart from the start
What i am noting is what Danny Boyle achieved throughout the film with such a minimal budget, characters tension and fear factor was constant throughout the film , the shot of the abandoned london are absolutley stunning and the soundtrack adds to the the ambiance…
again just in my opinion
