Say, holding you opinions in can be bad for you…let it out man!
P.S You are wrong but you are allowed to be.
Say, holding you opinions in can be bad for you…let it out man!
P.S You are wrong but you are allowed to be.
Ooh, dropping F-bombs even!
Say, touched a little nerve, did I?
Easy now, big guy.
No, Canada does not have to do what the U.S. says, and that’s not what I meant.
Canada and the U.S. rely on each other in many ways. We’re neighbors, we’re friends. And as much as we thoroughly disgust and infuriate you personally Say, I think it’s even safe to say that your economy may benefit slightly more from ours than vice versa.
But no biggy.
It’s also safe to say that no country is likely to try and invade you, lest they piss us off. You may argue that that is only because an invasion of Canada could seriously put our own safety in jeopardy. Even if that were true, isn’t it kind of a nice benny to have, being our next door neighbor?
One last thing. Do you feel immune to any future attack by a terrorist entity? If you were attacked, and I hope you never are, would you look to us for some sort of support? Perhaps military support? Probably.
So, given our histories as friends, and the fact that we are currently in the crosshairs of saddam, I find it hard to understand the Canadian government’s lack of support in our current ordeal.
So take a chill pill, and hope that you are never in our situation, with us being the ones avoiding your stares while we twiddle our thumbs.
I’m proud of our decision makers. I would never give the life of my brother or freind or self for Bush.
A lot of anti-Canadian retoric on this forum lately. What’s up with that?
You guys decided to go it alone so why would you expect not to get what you wanted, to be alone.
Mamann…“It’s also safe to say that no country is likely to try and invade you…”
I think it’s the fear of getting their tongues stuck to light posts that keeps them away…that and attack penguins…
I love this place!
“A man’s country is not a certain area of land, of mountains, rivers, and woods, but it is a principle and patriotism is loyalty to that principle”
~ George William Curtis
Say - So what’s your point? Stop being so vague and just let it out man. We all want to know what you’re really thinking.
Personally, I think Say is a Commie.
Secondly, everybody talking about how this is “Bush’s personal war” and “I don’t want my Canadian brothers and sisters to die for Bush” is bullshit. How would you like it if Saddam, not just terrorists, but Saddam, decided to have somebody fly a plane into the CN Tower? Would it still be “Bush’s war?” I don’t fucking think so.
Also, this isn’t just a war for oil. If it was a war for oil, we’d be invading Canada (because we get oil from them), we’d be invading Mexico (because we get oil from them too), and we’d definitely be stoming right the fuck in on Argentina (because we get oil from those bastards too). So how can you say this is Bush’s war?
I just look forward to the day when the Liberals will be out of office and the Canadian Alliance can step into power and get the country in order. Stephen Harper is the best politician they got going up above the 49th parallel.
Nobody’s going to fly a plane into the CN tower and Saddam isn’t going to attck us either.
This is Bush getting revenge for his daddy. And controlling the oil while he’s at it.
This isn’t about terrorism. Wake up!
How about I rephrase my not wanting to die for Bush to not wanting to die for the USA. You guys don’t like us anyway so why would we die for you?
I think Say said it best.
Ouch, Cupcake!
Truthfully, I am feeling a twinge of guilt at having pushed Say over the edge. I mean the guy has been under fire alot (albeit deserved IMO) and has kept his cool really well up to this point.
But, that being said, and to address you, cliffhanger, I think most of the negative sentiment has been directed to our buddies in France, and as I mentioned in that first post, I was directing this criticism toward leadership.
Hell, I live in Washington State and travel to your country to visit Victoria, B.C. (one of the most beautiful cities in the world - I love Butchart Gardens!) and Vancouver, and have met lots of nice people there. I’ve always been treated with kindness and respect there.
I just personally think it was a nearsighted decision, to say the least.
I do understand and respect the sense of national pride I see from y’all up north. I know I get pissed off and defensive when someone criticizes our leaders, even if they do deserve it.
But your leadership deserves it this time, in my own humble, unsolicited opinion.
How can I say this is Bush’s war?? Saddam has tried to kill his father. If someone had tried to kill your father, would you just let them be and say “oh well”. Also, George senior did not succeed in eradicating Saddam’s rule or the man himself. George junior wants to prove himself as a superior president and proove he can accomplish what his father could not. Another point is that as soon as all this “war on terror” crap started back on 11/11 Bush’s approval ratings have skyrocketed. Before the incident the Majority of America thought Bush was an idiot. Now the general public is swept up in this war and his approval rating will stay high until it is over. Whenever there is a war there is always approval for the leader. He is going to drag this out as long as he can for his own personal benefit. Why do you think he has dragged it out so long already. If he was really worried about the safety and freedom of america and americans he would have invaded long ago. I can;t believe some people buy his bullshit. These reasons are why I can call it Bush’s war.
Groove
I don’t remember President Bush asking Canada for support of any kind. Therefore, the issue of canada not helping is moot until we ask them for help. I do not have any doubts that if we really needed help from our n’aye’bors they would assist in any way they could. I also think that once this whole thing is over and the region is restabalized a lot of nay sayers (who say nay) will owe us an apology, which, of course, we won’t get.
Go RedWings!
Cliffhanger - I think you’re right, no one is going to attack Canada on a large scale. Although a couple of you did get shot in Yemen yesterday. Explain to me though why you think this is about revenge. George sr. kicked Iraqi ass all over the desert and decided for himself not to oust Saddam. So what does his son need revenge for? I’ve heard that many times but I just don’t understand the angle.
Contrary to some of these posts, not all of us Canadians are Left coast, Hemp-Wearin’, Union-Joinin’, Socialist-Votin’, Government-beggin, Tree-huggin’, Owl-savin’, Birkenstock-buyin’, Europe-trippin’, Bike-riddin’, Soy-eatin’, Pro-testin’, Non-hair-washin’, Anti-pitshavin’, Cheap jewelery wearin’, Back-packin’, Granola-crunchin’, Free-willyin’, Pro-lifin’, Whale-savin’, Fair-tradin’, Meat sacks.
…some of us have jobs.
As for the Anti-American sentiment, I have to think that it’s not coming from my Alberta T-Men brethren, and if it is I’m sure they just moved here from Toronto or B.C!

Groove, I like you, man, but you’re way, way off.
I’m with Ottawa Dave. We need leadership that has balls. We need David Orchard! (that’s a hell no to the Alliance)
“We need Leadership that has BALLS”
…is that Sheila Copps you are refering to?
“As a woman, I find it very embarrassing to be in a meeting and realize I’m the only one in the room with balls”
~ Rita Mae Brown
So we’re in Saddam’s crosshairs? Did he just turn his crosshairs towards us or have we been in them for 12 years? Think about that for a second. You weren’t worried about this man for 12 years, and now you are worried about him. Why? Because someone told you to be. Someone whose friends and colleagues stand to make billions of dollars from a war in Iraq. I know a lot of you trust Bush, but don’t blame others of us for not trusting that situation just because he says it in a nice voice on tv with the American flag in the background.
To say that this war isn’t about oil is just about one of the stupidest things I’ve heard. It’s not about us controlling their oil, it’s about us putting their oil onto the world market. Right now they are producing a fraction of the oil they could be. Ousting Saddam and rebuilding their oil industry would be worth 100s of billions of dollars to the US economy. Ask any of your economist buddys, even the conservative ones. Of course oil is a factor in this war.
Is anyone surprised that Halliburton, the company Dick Cheney was CEO of, is the front-runner for billions of dollars in contracts for the re-building of Iraq? Think that was a factor?
One last question for you guys to ponder. A lot of you claim that all Bush wants is US safety, and all of this money that will be generated is irrelevant. Well, how many of you consider Iraq a more imminent threat than North Korea. Last time I check EVERYONE considered Iraq the LEAST threatening of the 3 countries in the ridiculous “Axis of Evil.”
Our president just got on international television and told the president of another sovereign state that he must leave his own country. This is insane.
They say Penis pumps do wonders about penis envy.
Thought might be of interest to you Say. I know it can be rough when no matter how hard you yank it, it just doesnt seem to grow beyond the 4 inch mark.
Dave: we arent asking a thing from canadians.
Why would we?
After all, you're just another version of the french, which is to say another version of someone who had nothing better to do bt to come up with hundreds of different cheeses, sit in their asses while being invaded, sit in their asdses, while we take care of business, and sit in their asses after we're done taking care of business - and then sit some more, all while enjoying their 'delicious' cheeses, sniffing wine, and talking like a bunch of geeks.
We can take care of this war by ourselves.
Watch the news. See that? thats 250,000 of our troops, 50,000 british (I bow to them), 2000 australian and 200 polish. 5/6 of all troops are ours. And there's more coming.
We gives a damn about your troops - do you even have troops? You're much too busy deciding wether this is a provincial or national issue, to be able to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done.
See, that's what sets us apart. We dont waste time talking, when no talking needs be done - we act.
Canadians and french alike simply yak their mouths off and sit in their asses while eating blue cheese, while we go in, sacrifice our troops, save their country, and come back home.
Hahaha, funny that you should mention that we turned our backs on you. When we help Bush can’t even name us in your group of allies. War on terror doesn’t mean that you should bomb all other countries that have “Weapons of mass destruction”, or is it that bush decided to finish the war that daddy started. Sure terrorism must be fought, but by bombing an entire country isn’t the way to do it. Wouldn’t that make us terrorists as well? What good is going to come from this? WWIII
Sorry to have come off on a wrong note. But aren’t you the slightest bit worried of what is going to happen in the next little while. It isn’t that we don’t support you, it is just that we understand the full consequences. If any other country were to act against the decision of the UN it would be greatly looked upon in a condensending manner. the war against terrorism is not just “your” war, yet your country makes all the calls. When the big show does go down Canada will be there, similar to the states in WWII.
to diesel23, funny you should mention that we sit on our ass while you guys kick ass. Where were you in WWII, oh right you guys came in after everybody did the ass kicking and proclaimed that you guys won the war. The last time we weren’t right there with you was Vietnam. Oh yeah what happened there? Right, and how many people died for the cause? None because there was no cause, they died because of your bullshit. But that’s right you guys don’t talk about that war and when you do you still think you won. Seriously, maybe the rest of the world would be more eager to help if you guys would maybe mention the rest of the allies in the history books. Patriotism is great, but even the germans had patriotism and look at the cause they followed. You all get lost in the hype of once again becoming the world’s superpower that the goal in sight is lost. What happened to Bin Laden, did you guys give up on him. Shit you killed more of our soldiers than you did taleban. If that would have been us killing your soldiers by accident Bush would be bombing us. Maybe it isn’t the fact that we are scared to back you up, it just could be the fact that we are tired of your shit. The only time you consider us an allie is when you want something. Remember when you thought we harboured the terrorist so they could attack you. Funny has it always comes back to Canada in the end. This isn’t anything personal to any American out there, but it just seems that your negative attitude towards Canada is very ignorant. As with the penguin thing, remember we may have penguins but at least health care gets more funding then the army. Yeah your country loves you until you get sick and can no longer fight “their” wars.
