Help - Need Advice on New Computer

My vote does/will go to Toshiba. Absolutely great machines. [/quote]

I’ve never used a Toshiba desktop, but my vote goes against Toshiba laptops. Why, you ask? I have two Toshibas at work, and both are fine machines. I use the one laptop as my primary computer, and especially for the price, it has done very well. The problem is the support.

After the warranty ran out on the laptop (a little over one year), the fan stopped working. No big deal, right? It’s a fan. I expected to pay $50 or so for the component, since it was a custom mold, and install it myself. Ah, but Toshiba doesn’t do that. You can’t buy replacement parts direct from Toshiba… you have to go through an authorized parts distributor, who will then refuse to just sell you the part, they must also install it for you.

Which meant that a fan that costs Toshiba $10 to manufacture ended up costing me (well, my company) over $200 to fix. Which is why I prefer the IBMs… you pay for a nice, long, extended warranty, and you forget about it.

For your needs, just get a Dell.

www.gotapex.com has some of the best deals.

You don’t need any brand names and you don’t need to plunk down more than $500.

Hell, you can get a computer that’s 2 years old and you’ll still be fine.

Anyone of you know if Alienware is from the same as Dell. Notice that both their websites looks the same.
